Wonder if anyone can help confirm the following?

My father recalls what he insists is a Halifax crashing in the Gunthorpe/Paston area of Peterborough in 43-45. He is sure it was a Halifax because of the aircrafts size. However this area was very busy at that time so it could of been any number of types. I can't find anything about this on the net. He remembers one particular aspect of the crash:

The aircraft and gone through a hedge (so I presume the pilot had attempted a belly landing?) and debris was stuck in the hedge which included lengths of rubber that Dad says were part of the airframe. My Dad and his mates took these and used them to make handle grips for their bicycles!

Thats all I know I'm afraid!

Thanks
Steve T

Steve, if this message isn't too old, ...
I too have been looking for info on the Halifax crash at Gunthorpe.
As a kid, me and my mates in the 1970's picked up over 300 .5 rounds that had exploded during the crash ..

I believe the Halifax collided with another 4 engined bomber East of Peterborough about one month after the end of WW2.

If your still on the forum please contact me ..
