Hi,
I am looking for any info re the above raid but am hoping some of you HP57 buffs can throw some light on any of the below Halibags. I believe two of these were not on Pilsen but Mannheim the same night. However any info would be welcome as I am writing a book on my Uncle's part in this raid.

Hi,
According to BC Losses, all the aircraft you list were lost on the Pilsen operation.

Thanks. I did realise all theses Halis are listed on Pilsen in B.C. but official losses say 36 Losses occured on Pilsen and my list including Lancs is 38. I think the 77 sqn History has JB908 as missing Mannheim.

Have you looked at "Valley of the Shadow of Death" by J Alwyn Phillips, his list of Halifaxs shot down agrees , almost with yours. His account agrees with my recollection as the crew in which I was the Bomb Aimer VR-P W1271 skippered by S/L DWS Clark from 419 RCAF out of Middleton St George. It was along trip 10hrs20min part of it on three engines. Good luck on your endeavour.

Pilsen Raid 16/17th April 1943

May 20 2004, 6:57 PM

Hi,

My uncle, SGT. Leslie Anstee, navigator, took part in that raid form 77 Squadron in DT807 R. Take off 20.47, down 06.07. Bombs were dropped from 4,000 feet onto green T1 markers. Aircraft suffered flak damage en route and landed at Harwell.

I only have a copy of one page from the Squadron ORB for that raid. It also lists JB 911 X, pilot SGT. R. F. Smith, which returned safely and JB908 W, pilot SGT. F. S. Wall, which is recorded as missing from ops.

John
