Hello Margaret,

I dont know how much you have researched regarding who shot down Halifax MZ461,but the following information from Theo Boiten's Luftwaffe War Diaries vol 2, maybe of interest.

23/24 February 1945

Ofw. Kreibaum of III./NJG11 claimed a certain 'Lancaster' at 20.12 hrs, NW of Krefeld, for his first Abschuss. His victim which has been identified as Halifax MZ461 of 462 Squadron, crashed in flames, by the bridge between Anrath and Viersen, with the loss of all onboard. Kreibaum himself was forced to bail out of his Bf109 shortly afterward, due to an engine fire. His Messerschmitt went down in the area between Anrath and Meersen.

Ofw. Walter Kreibaum: 1 III./NJG11 Lancaster N.W Krefeld: 5,300m 20.12 462 Sqn Halifax MZ461

Regards,
Mike H.

Hi,

I don't know if this thread is still running but my Uncle John Gray lost his life on April 17th 1945 some miles NW of Augsburg in what was to become the final operational loss for 462 SQN due to enemy action. John is buried in Durnbach war cemetry.

The event and many others pertaining to this period are detailed in 'To see the dawn again' by Mark Lax and Leon Kane-Maguire.

Regards to you all
