I have seen in some recent postings here, that this site has access to "halifax database photos?" (is that correct?)
I have been looking for Halifax photos from 76sqn, only of the mark II series.these flew from late 42 to late 43 with the sqn and i am particularly interested in w7781,w7805,w7813,w7868,bb282,dt541,dt545,dt554,dt556,dt647,dt698and finally dt751.
It was really fascinating that you could pinpoint so many photos that seem really quite impossible for me to find.

Lonny, your post arouse my curiosity. Who are interested in my fathers airplanes, and why ?
Well of cause its not just my fathers Halifaxes, but it is a fact that he as a navigator flew with quite a few of them; W7781 (5 ops), W7805 (an airtest), W7813 (1 ops), DT698 (1 ops) and DT751 (14 ops).
Ian, as soon as I got the time I will come back with some information on at least one of your pictures. I will even try to post a picture of W7781 (MP-U) in flight, and a close up of the mid upper turret taken from the astrodome.

it would seem our relatives shared some planes! w7781 was flown on jan 23 1943 by my grandpa to Lorient(5hrs 45min).she was also flown once more by him on the 29th to Riccall.w7805 was flown on 2 air tests,w7813 was flown to long marston on feb 20,dt698 was flown same, and finally,dt751 was flown on feb 3 to Hanburg(6hrs 10min).
If you have any pics of these planes, please let me know how to get a copy!
i have been trying for a very long time to find photos of his planes, but none of his own ever have surfaced,if any ever existed.

Hi Lonny,
I've mentioned before that I don't actually have the photographs - the database is a listing of where the photo's actually are or can be seen.
If there is any reference that says either FOSTER or D/Base or got a number 57/12345 etc, then we have those hard copies.

My Father was an AFT with 428 sqd. during the war. Hydlaulics was his specialty. Any time I see someone might have wartime pictures of ground crew I follow up. Looking for the planes he might have serviced(long shot I know).His Name was John Alexander Watt and served on Halifaxe's and Lanc's. Any correspondance is appreciated. Thank You Dave
I note from the database referance you have a photo of DK148. My great uncle F Walton was the flight sergeant on this flight. I would be interested in any information you may have. (the 2 officers C.M.Shannon and WC Ellis, I believe were awarded the DFC following the flight).

Hi Ian F., I have just found out that my father was a WOP/AG on this Halifax and flew bombing missions over occupied europe. I don't know how your site operates regarding information, but as i know very little about him and have no photos of him or the plane, i am obviously hoping you could fill in any of the blanks. My father's name is Warrent Officer Akin Shenbanjo, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal in Sept'44, and went on to study law at Leeds University. I would dearly love to know the names of his flight crew, etc.... let's face it i'd appreciate anything about him, good, bad or indifferent.

Found this message whilst searching for information on the Halifax DT698 MP-W. Which my Great Uncle Sgt Michael Frederick Weir was mortally wounded in on the night of 14-15th April 1943, in a night fighter attack.
It appears www.57rescue.org is somewhat reluctant to give any information, is there anything other than what you have posted available?
Ian Foster who made the major contribution to this thread. used to host this message board but for health reasons hasn't done so for a while.I do know that some of the questions asked were answered 'off board'. The one posted by Barry re his father, recived a direct response and the photo he was seeking from myself.
The data base referred to was Ian's reference to where photos could be found rather than that they were held personally by himself. The whole thread 'lost the plot' as other came in asking for photos rather than start a seperate thread.
I'm sure you will know that your great uncle died of his injuries after his aircraft was shot up by night fighters during Ops to Stuttgart and crash landed at Manston. There is an account of the incident in Bill Chorley's book 'To see the dawn breaking' which is a history of No. 76 Sqn.
No reluctance to respond by the boys and girls who frequent this forum - it just gets difficult to do so when the question is not at all clear or mixed in with others
I see that you have in your datbase pictures of this plane which was piloted by my father Reg (Jimmy) Watt and named after his wireless operator Akin Shenbanjo. The museum in Canada is planning on painting the nose art and writing something about these men especially looking to highlite Blacks in the RAF/RCAF.
Your datatbase suggests there are some photos that might help in this endevour.

Have you seen the post in this thread by Barry Jones (about 7 above yours in 2007)? Akin was Barry's father. The photos you refer to can be found in 'To See the Dawn Breaking' by Bill Chorley.
