Hi John
I have copies of 35 squadron Gravelly ORBS from January to March 1944 Halifax L V 825 was coded P according to the ORBS your father never flew in this plane During the above period he flew in the following aircraft either Halifaxes or Lancs
JN955 W 19 2 44 minelaying
JN955 W 20 2 44 STUTTGART
JN954 Z 22 2 44 minelaying (recalled)
LV862 Y 24/25 2 44 SCHEINFURT
LV862 Y 1/2 3 44 STUTTGART
ND697 W 18/19 3 44 FRANKFURT
ND697 T 22/23 3 44 FRANKFURT
ND697 T 24/25 3 44 BERLIN
ME621 T 30/31 3 44STRAUSBURGH
That was most usefull information.
In his logbook my father just wrote down the letter of the plane, unntil 24.03.44. So for all the Halifaxes at 35 sqn there was a black hole (almost). Interesting that ND697 seems to have changed letter from "W" to "T".
My father continued flying ops untill 16.-17.08.44. (Stettin). Then he had a last trip in a Lancaster on the 23.08. as an instructor, before leving for Canada to become a pilot.
I visited Kew some years ago and had a look, but did not copy the ORB.Is that a big and expensive job ?
Hi John
you can order copies of ORBS on line I found it cheaper to do this than travelling down to Kew It depends how quick you get them as to how busy they are I have been to Kew several times and you cant beat the buzz you get by finding them yuorself If you order on line they tell you exactly what the cost will be
Kind regards
The minimum order is £10 so it is best value for money if you order the max 5 seperate piece numbers. Look up the references of the catalogue search online. The copying is reasonable priced at around 20p a copy.I usually get some orb reports and then perhaps some combat reports and then some station records. Search for them by station e.g. Linton on Ouse etc. First you get an estimate then they inform you of the cost and you then confirm the order. It's not bad once you've done it once!
p.s. thanks for the stuff on S/L Sale on the other forum.
