Hello guys does anybody know how to find out if someone who was part of an air crew is still alive today? The man I am looking for should be living in the UK but he is most likely dead now. Can somebody plese help me.

Thank
Chris

Chris

The best way will be through a Squadron Association (if one exists). If you throw up a name and Squadron on this board, you may get a quicker answer (or an Association address).

Cheers

Okay Eddie. Bert Brakes of 420 Snowy Owl Sqn. I only know a little bit about him. All I really know is that he was shot down on the 10/11 June 1944(along with my great grandfather, he was the air gunner I believe).

Chris, here is the Squadron Association contact and address for 420. If you write to them giving the name of the airman and any details you have they may be able to advise you if he is a member or if they have had any information about him.

420 'Snowy Owl' (City of London) Squadron Association Robbie Robson, 7 Camberley Close, Hucclecote, Gloucester, England, GL3 3PQ

As you know there were 8 on the aircraft when it went down. Looking at the crew listing in Chorley (and with Chudzik flying in the mid under position), I suspect Sgt. B.E. Brakes may have been the Wireless Operator (although he may also have cross trained as a gunner as a lot, if not all did).

Thanks Linzee, I will give them a shot when I have time. Eddie, I am not sure what Bert Brakes did but my grandfather told me that one of the gunners survived which could only be Bert Brakes. Unless he was a wireless op/ air gunner.
