With a little bit of luck this will have uploaded into the post. If it does I have some other shots that i may be able to now successfully post - apparently my jpegs were of too large a size.

Let me know if this helps Phil.

Bob

Hey its a great night

March 30 2005, 8:10 PM

Hi
I have just got my e-mail working again and you posted a pic. Thanks for the e-mail but its the same pic that I have and with it being a YAM pic I find that could find many areas that are a bit iffy when compared to NA377. I always feel bad about moaning about the YAM Halifax but from now on period or NA377 pics are the way to go. As for spelling mistakes if you only knew how many times I read this over before posting. I will try to get some new photos done soon. If I can be of any help please ask

Cheers
Phil

Very true ...

March 30 2005, 8:18 PM

it is however the only photo I've ever seen in any source or publication that depicts them albeit from an unusual perspective. As to whether or not they are representatively accurate of every and all makes and marks of the Hally that I don't know but I expect the YAM version is reasonably accurate. I haven't any interior shots of NA337 (yet). Still awaiting the warmer weather of spring to melt the snow before I venture down Trenton way ...
maybe then ....

Hi
Ian e-mailed me that one. Cheers to the both of you.
Quetions raised (I know it never ends)
1/ were the fuel cock 'open' as depicted or in a gate like the throttle levers.
2/ What MK's would the drawing be for.
3/ Did the Pilot sit on a padded cushion or on his parachute pack
4/ Any pics of the dimmer swith panel?
Have included a picture of seat. Colour has come out wierd looks nothing like that in reality
Cheers

Phil - what scale exactly is the model you are constructing? Even 1/48th scratch built probably won't require all that much attention to those details as in all likelihood the fuel cocks won't be visible at all through the transparency.

I know that might disappoint you as it seems you are being extremely thorough but having built a lot of models in my youth (something I reluctantly stopped doing with the demands of raising kidlets) I discovered back then that much interior work I invested countless hours on was wasted as it was totally invisible on assembly.

Just curious though and don't want to discourage you. Carry on ...

The Pilot's seat is so designed as to acomodate his parachute as opposed to the chest mounted 'cute.

Hi Phil,
Hmmn... Trust Cees! :-)
1/ were the fuel cock 'open' as depicted or in a gate like the throttle levers.
Answer: From all the pics & technical info we have here ALL the Hally's fuel levers were the same (as shown)
2/ What MK's would the drawing be for.
Answer: All marks.
3/ Did the Pilot sit on a padded cushion or on his parachute pack
Answer:
Initially in (early) hally's, the pilot wore a chest harness as with the rest of the crew & sat on a cushion, but with the way the war was going, and the difficulties of trying to fly a stricken aircraft straight & level long enough for the remainder of the crew to bail out, it became impossible to hand the pilot his chute, and so, initially & apparrantly unoficially, pilot's began to wear the sit on chute's. This practice prevailed until eventually it became common practice for the pilot (and rear gunner) to take a sit on chute.
4/ Any pics of the dimmer swith panel?
Answer: Errrmmm... not yet??? Actually, I can't find ANY information on the blighter other than what Cees & myself have already sent??? :-(
Hope this helps?
Ian

Thanks Chaps

Hi
So were did YAM get theirs from. Were they just making it up as they went along. I so wish that I had the AP. I think that after this project I may have to move over to the real thing. I see that Cees posted a question on another forum about a Scotish Wellington recovery from one of the Scotish islands that was featured in Flypast some time ago. Do you know anything about this. My interest is because my Cousin Mike Davey was involved but we lost touch about 20 years ago. Do you think anyone would be interested in some scans of the rear turret tech manual.

Many thanks
Phil

Phil,

In addition to what Ian has already provided I can tell you that the fuel cocks are indeed fitted in a sort of gate as in the throttle box, although photo's are difficult to find. I have seen these up close while visiting the IWM's cockpit at Lambeth.

I actually do have a copy of the worksdrawing showing the dimmer switch panel but it is toooooo big to fit a scanner but it is roughly similar to the one fitted in the Lancaster.

Hope this helps as well?
Cees
