My Mothers Uncle was a Tail Gunner in 434 sqn. His Halifax was shot down over France on June 13 1944. I have no information on where their base was, where they were last in contact, thier aircraft identifier or any such information. If any one knew of Pilot Officer Charles Vernon Dymond, his Pilot or crew and has any of this information, it would be greatly appreciated.

Croft

Since you sent me the information I was looking for, I have researched Croft. There are 4 of them in England. One in Herfordshire, one in Lincolnshire, one in Cheshire, and one in Leicestershire. Do you know which one was their Base of Operations?
Keep Smiling, Shawn.

434 (RCAF) squadron was stationed at RAF Station Croft Yorkshire. I'll try for details to-morrow in the Book of Remembrance in the RCAF Memorial Museum at Trenton

Croft, also known as Neasham locally, is in County Durham.

Looking at a map, it is to the West of the A167 Northallerton to Darlington Road. Originally a 4 Group base before being transferred to 6 Group on 1/1/43, 434 Sqn went there on 11/12/43.

Cheers

Eddie

Dymond

Shawn: From the Book of Remembrance there is not much more than Edd Fell has already written. Except that Charles Dymond was 20 years old and commissioned as a Pilot Officer. His regimental numbers were commissioned J87125, non-commissioed R191609. The flight engineer (Roberts?) who was RAF was missing believed killed.

If you are looking for information on 434 sqn, try my site as there is quite a bit of info there, you should be able to find your uncle's crew and aircraft serial number here....

http://www.bombercrew.com/434crews.htm

Also, here is a page about Croft, most of the info on the page refers to 431 squadron (they shared the base with 434), also I have some current photos of Croft that I will be adding soon.

Just click on the "Croft" button.
