My Uncle was a Flight Engineer with 425 Squadron and have been following with interest the thread from Terri regarding her father who was also a Flight Engineer with the same squadron as their times with 425 do overlap and they flew on a few missions together.
Unfortunatelly i do not have my Uncles log book but i do have a copy of his service record and whilst some of it is understandable a lot of it is not.
Can anybody help me with this task?
One thing i find on it intriguing is it is stamped "annual filming" in March and November 1944.
Can anybody enlarge on this?
It was mentioned by Karl in the thread from Terri of a film of 425 Squadron.
Does anybody know much about this film?
Steve, There is a black and white 16mm film done by the National Film Board of Canada about the history of RCAF 425 Squadron. It is a fairly good documentary and I have a copy some where at my place.
Put down the abbreviations in the logbook in a line from the log and I will try to help decipher the context of the message in the entry.
Firstly sorry I have not been around the past 36 hours - my pc took this time to have a fit and almost die on me . . .but I am back up and running again.
Steve I will write to you privately in a minute too but jkust wanted to thank you for the information you have already passed on to me.
There is so much I dont understand either! Not just codes, but the actual operation of a squadron! In my dad's log books (which are still on my server for anyone to view) - my dad clearly identifies which Halifax he flew, on what date. When I look at the flight record Steve has already shown me, I am speculating that I should be able to track not only what happened to the planes but the human cost of lives too. Or am I expecting this to be too simple?
