Hi all !
Does anybody know anything about the airfoil datum and the constructional datum of the Halifax wing? I came across a mystery:)
The Granger plans give following information:
the wing constructional datum is said to be 3 degrees and 16'.
the airfoil datum is said to be 2 degrees.
The constructional datum looks ok, when put together with plans.
But if we believe the second figure (airfoil datum) then the leading edge of the inner wing section should be situated much lower then we can see it on photos, for instance those of the Trenton Halifax... Strange enough, already on the Granger plans the 2-degrees-line passes much below the leading edge... looks very suspicious. As far as I know the airfoil datum (called also the chord line) is the line joining the leading edge and the trailing edge. So I connected these two points on the Granger plans and the angle of the line was like 2 and 1/2 degrees. Quite confusing...
Maybe this figure of 2 degrees refers only to the outer wings? The profile of the inner wing section is different from this of the outer wing sections, so maybe the angle of the airfoil datum in this two sections is different too?
Can anybody help me?
Cheers, and happy Valentine's Day :)
