Hi There,

Can anybody help me with any details regarding my Uncle who died on a raid to Germany on 26/6/43 and is buried in Florrennes Belguim. His name is Mathew Henry Clack, but I believe he was also known as Harry. His service number is 10303.He flew with 102 Squaron, RAF.

Thanks in anticipation

Just a couple of corrections, Harry's rank was probably Sgt as he was an Air-Gunner and his service number was 910303.

Cheers

Halifax Loss on Wuppertal raid

May 28 2008, 4:21 PM

Hi Richard/
Your uncle was lost on the night of (24/25th) June 43 raiding Wuppertal, he was the rear gunner in a Halifax 11, JD144 coded DY-Q of 102 Sqd, WR Chorley's Bomer Command Losses records the following......

T/o off from Pocklington at 2308,crashed 0230 near Barvaux (Luxembourg),on the south bank of the Ourthe, 6Km E of Durbuy,Belgium.A German recovery unit from Deurne could find only one body, but it is likely that several inspections of the crash site took place as three are buried in Florennes Communal Cemetery; Sgt Sheppard rests at the garrison town of Leopoldsburg, while Sgt Tovey was taken to Amsterdam, probably by the recovery unit, where he now lies in Schoonselhf Cemetery.

The crew were as follows,
Sgt K R W Sheppard Killed
Sgt C Rushton Pow
Sgt A J Tovey Killed
Sgt W R Cole Pow
Sgt F Gettings Killed
Sgt J J MacDonald Killed
Sgt M H Clack Killed.

Regards,
Rob Hill.
