Dear OLA Member:

The Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA) is pleased to announce a new partnership with MYLax to create an official statistical ranking system for all rep box teams across Ontario.

In the past, rankings officials have travelled around Ontario observing teams, tracking player movement among clubs, and accounting for coaching experiences and past results. But as registration numbers continue to grow across the province, performing these tasks and placing teams in the appropriate skill categories becomes increasingly difficult.

The MYLax platform is a spinoff of the flagship MYHockey rankings system, the preeminent North American leader in ice hockey team rankings. Owner Neil Lodin is excited about the new partnership.

After a decade of building the most comprehensive database of youth hockey information, MYHockey is now entering the world of lacrosse with the same determination, dedication and mature set of ranking tools. We have built a platform that enables both an accurate database of games scores, a portal for lacrosse information and rankings that help the sport and its participants understand their capabilities.

MYLaxRankings.com is looking to become the global database leader for lacrosse scores and information, and we are thrilled to launch our site in partnership with the largest state or provincial lacrosse jurisdiction in North America, the OLA.

The MYLax rankings are computed mathematically, with no subjective weighting or human determined values. MYLax rates teams based upon how well they play against other teams and how good those teams are. These two factors are "AGD" or "average goal differential" and "SCHED" or "strength of schedule". AGD is currently calculated by accumulating the goal differential of each game, to a maximum of 7, and divides it by the number of games played. The strength of schedule is computed by averaging the rating of each game opponent. AGD and SCHED are added together to compute a team's rating.

Since all teams need a minimum number of game scores to be ranked, teams will be added to the overall ranking system on a weekly basis. Rankings for each age division are up-dated every Wednesday morning.

OLA Coordinator of Ratings, Lynn Brandwood, is excited about the potential the new ranking system has to help improve the existing OLA rating system.

This website will give us an additional tool to use to determine team ratings for provincial championships heading into the Ontario Lacrosse Festival. The site will save us significant time in evaluating team performance and offer features like team rankings, by age division, in each Zone.

Established in 1897 as the sole governing body for lacrosse, the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA) is the oldest sport organization in the province of Ontario and, with a 140-club program that reaches approximately 45,000 members, the largest regional lacrosse organization in North America. The mission of the Association is to administer, promote and develop the national summer sport of Canada within Ontario.
