Just a couple of my personal observations and highlites. Feel free to add your own:
First hi-lite was was Hamilton vs Uxbridge "C" semi final. 2:45 left in 3rd period. Ux was winning 4-2. Hamilton had a penalty and called a goalie measurement. AND WON!!!! (Don't see that very often) Game over for Uxbridge keeper. Uxbridge didn't have a back up goalie and threw in what looked like an "un-prepared" replacement. Ham. comes back with 2 quick goals and wins in overtime!!!! Clearly Uxbridge was on route to win but Hamilton coaches deserves MVP award for the game. Ux. boys should keep their heads high. Played like champions, should have won but lost in a very tough way. I guess that's why they have the rules.
Finals. Hamilton and Nepean. Not even close. Other posts have questions about Junior players. We've have played Nepean for years at the '93/94 age level (usually B) but this team was not a B team. A strong "C" team yes but there wasn't a specific player that overly dominated in my opinion. Best team won! Congrat's
Best game of tourney Mississauga and Guelph semi final. 7-6. Guelph led by 1 goal four or five times in game. Missy fought back with 2 goals in last two minutes to steal the win. Extremely fast pace. Clean play. Entertaining! Both teams deserved a win.
Stayner vs Owen Sound Semi. Battle to the end. Stayner scoring in last minute to tie and winning in OT. Could have been either teams game. Great effort all around.
Final Mississauga 5 Stayner 2. Hat's off to Miss. Rumour in rink was Stayner had 3 JR. players playin "down" and Missy had none. Didn't see anyone specifically standing out heads and shoulders on either team and until O.L.A. changes rules it's totally legal and a mute point arguement. Tommy's had just a little more jump and again best team won. Congrat's Mississauga.
Semi between Six Nations and Orangeville was a "battle royale"! Extremely fast paced, physical and a clear example of LAX at full speed and skill. Orangeville may have won the game 4-3 on the scorboard but i'm not sure if they won the game on the rink though. Doesn't matter anyways! Orangeville moves on.
Finals between Orangeville and Brampton was sluggish in the first two periods. Orangeville jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead. I saw Brampton score a weak goal in the early second but unfortunately had to leave. Final was 4-3 BRAMPTON??????? If someone was there fill us in. Orangeville was in total control for the first 2 periods? Must have been a barn burner finish!
Congrat's to the Brampton team~!
Cheers to the staff, coaches, players and referee's. No bench clearings or any last minute "beatings". Just a great time in whitby.
See everyone next year~
