That's the problem . . . . there is equipment with the correct number on it but it does not fall within the measurements.
I can see both sides of this argument. There are some coaches and goaltenders that do not know any better.
In their defense, at the beginning of the year people were told that only the number system was going to be used. SO if you were wearing CAT 3 leg pads then you were ok.
However, right around the time of Qualifiers the switch was made to bring out the tape and start measuring goaltenders again.
Most people coming into provincials were still under the impression that the number system was still the only criteria being used. They got a reality check however, when goalies were being tossed left right and center.
Countless times throughout the festival there were confused coaches and parents saying they bought their goaltender CAT 3 pads only to find out they do not taper and are illegal.
