Hiatus recovery....short block questions?

I put my build on hiatus so I could finish school a couple years ago (BS in Mech. Eng.), so now I think I'm ready to pick it up again.

CURRENTLY:

351 2-bolt block, .030 over
4MA crank, .010 under
stock rods, .010 over
Speed-Pro hyper pistons

Short block is currently assembled, sans rings, to measure clearances. The rods have NOT been polished/peened. The plan was to have block machined to zero deck height and run this assembly with Aussie 2V heads (set aside for now, not concerned with valvetrain yet). This motor does not have a destination (yet), but it will NOT be for drag use...more aimed at autocross. Minimum goal is 1HP/ci (typical), but would like to see something more along the lines of 400-450HP. For now, I would like to build a "bullet proof" bottom end.

QUESTIONS:
1. Is there any value in polishing/peening these rods now, since i've already had them machined to match the crank? Maybe easier to upgrade?
2. If I were to upgrade to aftermarket rods and pistons (forged), are there any brand suggestions/preferences?
3. If I were to upgrade to aftermarket rods and pistons, is there any market for selling the current unused rods and pistons? Crank with it too?

Thanks for your help.
