Seems your desired numbers should be easy to hit. I have the same engine but decided to change the heads to the closed chamber heads and run flat top speed pro pistons with the skirt coating, yields a 10.5 to 1 CR. I'm changing intake and carb and porting the heads with a cam in the .560-.580 lift range and a 230 duration at .050/290 advertised. This car will be mostly street driven with some track days. I switched my heads from open chamber because the motor came with the flattops and only gave about an 8.5 to 1 CR. The open chamber heads are more prone to detonation if you put a domed piston. Push you CR a bit with a small dome piston and you can keep your heads. Change the valves to one piece stainless and some good keepers and adequate springs for the cam you choose. The bottom end should easily push 6,000 with no problems...possibly change to ARP rod bolt nuts nuts because you probably have the good rod bolts (my motor has them, little football shaped heads...same bolt that went in the Boss 351c with 180,000psi strength). Bottom end shouldn't give you any fuss for what you are doing. Maybe have the bottom end balanced if you have the $$$. |
