Update on progress

December 20 2003, 7:33 PM

Well the parts supply took longer than expected.
I got sick of waiting for the forged hypatec pistons so ended up buying the cast version, got everything off to the machine shop then got an email a few days later informing me that the Forged version of that piston was now available. As luck would have it they had only bored the block not honed it so I was able to take the cast ones back and pay the difference for the forged variety.
These will have a small dish of 5cc machined into them to achieve the desired 10.5:1 compression.
The rods, I have beam polished and they will be bushed(the pistons come with tapered pins and circlips) and shotpeened and fitted with ARP bolts.
The decks were squared to the tunnel and should leave the pistons about 3 thou in the hole.
Doesn't look like I'll get it back before christmas now.
Ive managed to find some Ford Racing 36lb injectors which are old stock. They only list 42's now and I think they are a little larger than required.

Pete.

Another update!

March 3 2004, 4:48 PM

After finally getting my engine back from the machine shop I started dummying it up.
The Morons had machined the rod bushes on the piss! #1 had the front of the piston 8thou out of the hole and the back 8thou in the hole!?! Anyway took the rods back and they had them a week and still hadn't fixed it! So I took them elsewhere and charged them for it.
Then I got to the ring installation...the fuckwits had squashed the ring lands slightly when they machined the dish in the pistons! This caused the oil ring to get trapped. Luckily I was able to scrape the offending area with a scalpel to gain clearance.
So for all you West Aussie guy's, don't ever go near Ranch Automotive engineers...they fuck your stuff and take a long time doing it!

Pete.
