For the record, JC's have;
beat Mississauga IceDogs once,
beat Toronto Marlboros three times,
tied London Jr. Knights,
tied Toronto Young Nats,
tied Barrie Colts,
tied Mississauga Rebels (total of 10 games)
tied Nepean Raiders
The record speaks for itself.

Love these lists and they make no sense. For example 2 from ODMHA someone else says 4 - if Gloucestor beats Nepean (which looks likely) then can you imagine telling the ODMHA champion/finalist they don't get to go to OHL cup????? Have fun speculating |

Over half a dozen prospects who were consensus first rounders three months ago will not be rated in the top twenty come draft day. Why? Scouts are concerned about;
(1) parents meddling
(2) politicing coaches
(3) attitude towards fellow players
(4) lack of raw talent
(5) not living up to the hype
Careful what you wish for TR, JB, AA, MF, RO etc. |

yes, i agree, your record does speak for itself; but you have to look at the COMPLETE record... here's a few parts you left out...
loss to Red wings;
loss to Sens;
a loss to Markham;
2 losses to Wexford (one of those was 5-1);
two spankings by the Dogs (7-1 & 7-2);
didn't advance at the Marlie tournament...
and what happened in that tournament in Ottawa; a tie with Nepean, i think, but how did that finish up?
your successes tended to be early in the season; you seemed to have a tougher time as the league progressed?
and finally: a first round exit from the playoffs....
cheer up JCs... on balance, you have a good team; not as good as Marlies & Nats & Dogs & Brampton & Whitby... but good. with 20 teams in the OHL cup, after they get past the automatic / obvious choices, there will be a couple extra wild card spots, and i think you guys will get one, and i think thats ok, as JC's are just as deserving as many of the other teams who are "good", but not quite as good as the best....
so relax.... take a deep breath.... and, maybe:
stop advertising on this site & inviting everyone else in the league to throw tomatoes at you...

JC's blanked Gloucester and NYR also beat Gloucester in Ottawa. If they are your league champions, then I agree with others that at least 6 GTHL teams should get in. Based on what I've seen, the other leagues are producing Grinders this year.
Finally, everyone is forgetting the most important thing and that is goaltending. It is not a coincident that of the teams left in the play-offs, each team has one of the best goaltenders in the league. |
|
Anonymous (no login) 74.100.43.27 | Re: Confirmed List. Good luck to All. | February 26 2007, 5:25 PM |

|
Anonymous (no login) 206.47.249.252 | Re: Confirmed List. Good luck to All. | February 26 2007, 7:25 PM |
Well the GTHL should not more than 4 teams in this years tournament, but the meddling GHTL heads will see to it that they do. should the JC's be invited, more than likely not, but I would not be suprised if they were. They are only and average team. But so is the Nats and they will get and invite as well and they will throw in the Rebels for good measure.
|
|

ok, now you tell us your team who happens to be more deserving...saying the JC's would be an iffy pick is tolerable, but then to call out the nats and rebels? these two teams have plus .700 records against teams from other leagues, so if you're going to question their selection, you better be ready to back it up. so let's hear it |
|
Anonymous (no login) 74.108.39.182 | Re: Confirmed List. Good luck to All. | February 27 2007, 12:31 AM |
Based on skill alone 6 GTHL teams should be there. Like I told you before, after Honey Baked, Dogs and Brampton you can throw everyone in a hat and pick a team.
For example this is what happened last year in the OHL CUP when you bring in grinder teams outside the GTHL;
Quinte Red Devils 0 wins 3 loses 0 ties GF 4 GA 12 PIM 65
Cumberland Barons 0 wins 2 loses 1 tie GF 7 GA 13 PIM 71
Richmond Hill Stars 0 wins 3 loses 0 ties GF 3 GA 10 PIM 50 |
|

GTHL 91's is the weakest league in GTHL history. 1st go to the top 4 in every other league, then look at bottom feeders like NYR and JRCdns. |
|
Anonymous (no login) 209.226.122.12 | Re: Confirmed List. Good luck to All. | February 27 2007, 8:38 AM |
Remember this is the "OHL" Cup and not the Ontario Championship. Make no mistake about it-it is a Scouting Tournament. Final decisions on filling the list will be Finalists and then prospects.Wild Cards will go to placing and prospects. If you are fifth place with 3 or less prospects and not headed to your finals-your season is over. |
|
Anonymous (no login) 74.12.104.195 | Re: Confirmed List. Good luck to All. | February 27 2007, 11:39 AM |
Are we talking AA prospects that can play in the OHL next year? Or are we talking prospects 1-2 years away? GTHL teams have better skilled players. The above post hits it bang on re "grinder teams" in the previous OHL Cup.
According to some it would ok to sacrifice players like; O'Reilly, Tresham, McEachan, Essery, Merman, Esscot, Campbell, Stelleck, Blacker....to mention a few, for players outside the GTHL that have built their teams around their goaltender by playing the trap. Unless I'm missing something here, skill is the direction both OHL and NHL took two years ago.
JC's are a skilled bunch of players who were asked to be plumbers mid-way through the season by forcing them to trap instead of utilizing their speed and skill with relentless fore-check, constant puck and foot movement through all three zones. They started the season 8-1-3 by playing this way.
NYR's problem stemmed mostly from key player suspensions in the play-offs and of course, discipline, in the end did them in.
Wings had a good solid team that had problems scoring. Here's a team that could have finished higher in the standings if not for lack of scoring. That was there only problem and of course they too had discipline problems.
With all due respect to all, hypothetically, if you were to switch Stajer to anyone of these three teams, anyone of these teams could have finished as high as second place in the standings ahead of the Marlies and Nats.
And finally, both NYR and JC's had Conn Smythe performances by opposing puck stoppers, especially in their final game and is the reason why they are on the outside looking in. All things being equal, both teams should have won their series against their respective teams. |

Gloucestor is know in the OHL Cup after beating Nepean in the ODMHA semi-final. Nepean now has to hope for a wild-card spot. Winner of Kingston and Ottawa Valley will determine the other ODMHA spot at the OHL Cup. |
|
Anonymous (no login) 208.10.131.8 | Re: Confirmed List. Good luck to All. | February 27 2007, 12:15 PM |
Only 2 GTHL teams are ranked in the top 13 so I hardly doubt the NATS, REBELS, NYR AND JRC's will ALL be ranked somewhere in the 14-20 spots. Face it the G stinks this year. |
|
Anonymous (no login) 74.12.104.195 | Re: Confirmed List. Good luck to All. | February 27 2007, 12:19 PM |
Thank you. Now my point is reinforced. There should be at least 6 GTHL teams, maybe 7. Gloucester was shut out in a lopsided loss to JC's in Ottawa. They're a trapping team who love to finish their checks and cheap shot skilled players. |

1. Mississauga IceDogs – GTHL

This is no "confirmed" list! The SCTA tournament isn't for another two weeks and the OMHA's aren't for three weeks. So how can you project who will be there?
Take out teams 17 - 20 as there is no way those teams should be there. I can think of a few teams that deserve it more: (Not in order) Gloucester, Lambton Sting , Burlington Eagles, Ajax-Pickering, Central-Ontario, Hamilton Bulldogs.

like it's been said before, the remaining GTHL teams have been confirmed, i'm not making this up, so you can forget about the possibility that the Icedogs, Marlies, Nats and Rebels will be left out, because each team has been confirmed to play. with that being said, not all teams have been selected because (as you mentioned) the OMHA still has a lot of sorting out to do. |

i would half to disagree with you, gloucester is not a team that plays the trap but more of a team that beats you with there speed and passing. and in that 5-1 loss they had in ottawa to the JC's, they had there other goalie in nets(not Dupuis) and he played terrible that game. |
|
Anonymous (no login) 74.12.106.209 | Re: Confirmed List. Good luck to All. | February 27 2007, 3:56 PM |
So you agree with me, goaltending is the most important position.
In the 5-1 JC win, JC's had better specialty teams and play was pretty much even 5 on 5. Now they are in the finals. That pretty much sums it up. |
|
Anonymous (no login) 141.119.184.10 | Re: Confirmed List. Good luck to All. | February 27 2007, 3:56 PM |
I guess I forgot to take into account the GTHL final four: Icedogs, Marlies, Nats and Rebels.
Let me restate my comment to say that the teams I did mention should receive serious consideration as all of them have had success vs the top OHL Cup ranked teams. The OMHA tournament will determine three of the teams as the Gold, Silver and Bronze winners will qualify. The final four in the Alliance should produce at least three teams from them: Lambton, London, Waterloo or Cambridge.
Gloucester has to be considered purely based on their outstanding performance in the ODMHA regular season and playoffs.I would say that they and Kingston are the top two from that league with Nepean and Ottawa Valley up there as well. |
|
Anonymous (no login) 131.104.252.30 | Re: Confirmed List. Good luck to All. | February 27 2007, 4:03 PM |
i think we should just skip the whole selection process and have OHL Cup tournament finals already...let's say Toronto Jr. Canadiens vs. Gloucester Rangers. from what i've heard/seen on this site, those two teams can beat everyone, so why bother with the minor details (ie. round robin, playoffs, etc.)
are you happy now? will you stop with the self-promotion? thanks. |

I watch a lot of games for a scout who can't get to a lot of games and let me tell you what I think. The GTHL is deeper in talent than most of you folks are lead to believe in this post.
To me it's about seeing on centre stage going head to head the likes of O'Reilly, Fowler, Holland, Martindale, Ryan and Dueshane at the OHL Cup. It's about watching this group playing against each other creating new rivalries.
Watching the 1990 U17 team play with each other and all talk about their OHL Cup experience is special. |

"If the OHL Cup is taking in 5th 6th and 7th place teams that didn't earn the right to be there then the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs, Sun County Panters, Burlington Eagles, Guelph Storm, Grey Bruce Highlanders, YSE, Peterborough Petes and Clarington Toros are packed and ready to go."
What is the criteria for a team 'earning' the right to be at the OHL Cup? I think firstly it needs to be clearly understood that the OHL Cup is NOT an Ontario Championship tournament. It is for the sole purposes of being a showcase tournament for the OHL Teams to see the best talent from all leagues go head to head in one tournament. They obviously select teams based on their league play (hence the final four of the GTHL, the top three at the OMHA's, etc.) but they also look at the competitiveness of the teams throughout the year in big tournaments. Some of the teams you listed above did very well in tournament play and defeated some of the top OHL Cup seeds in the process.

You guys are all a bunch of insane losers and need to get your heads fukking checked. It's just boys playing a game and you're at each other like it's Leafs vs. Canadiens 1967. Get a ****in' grip!
You can bet your ass that the OHL Cup isn't going to change much with regards to OHL draft rankings. If anything, a kid or two might drop, but if you think guys like Tavares or Stamkos were picked based on their performances at the OHL Cup I've got a piece of **** in my shorts to sell you for $100,000.
I typically just lurk through these forums because it's entertaining to watch mentally ill retar.ds with anger management issues argue over whose kid puts a small piece of black rubber into netting better. But something had to be said. |

Criteria is teams need to be consistent. JC's as well as many other average teams just haven't been consistent this year. They have 1 over promoted good player and 1 average player and a bunch of no names. So should they be invited ? If yes, then take a look at St. Catherines. Same scenario basically. So should they get an invite as well? There are alot of players that are deserving to be at this showcase but the teams they play on are unfortunately not deserving. For example Burlington, another average team but have 3 strong players, should they get invited based on the 3 players or their teams mediocre merits. List goes on and on. |

The GTHL is the strongest league in Ontario whether you like it or not, there will be 6 teams getting in from the G. THe remaining 4 are guaranteed spots, 2 wildcards left from the G: probably NYR and JCS |

There might be a few suprises, but this list is now getting much closer..
There are couple of variables since the SCTA still has not started playoffs and the Semi's of the ETA are just starting.
I cannot really comment on the US base teams other than the Michigan based ones which most of us have seen and are familiar with, and the OHL Cup keeps mentioning.
1. Mississauga IceDogs ( Runner up or winner GTHL )
2. Brampton Battalion ( Gold, Silver or Bronze Medalist OMHA )
3. Waterloo Wolves ( Runner up or winner MHAO )
4. Whitby Wildcats ( Gold, Silver or Bronze Medalist OMHA )
5. Toronto Marlboros ( Consideration Season and Playoffs )
6. Detroit Honeybaked 91’s ( Open Invite )
7. Detroit Belle Tire U16’s ( Open Invite )
8. Cambridge Hawks ( Runner up or winner MHAO )
9. Little Caesars ( open invite )

Here we go again. Listen for the last time!
there are 13 positions spoken for via winning their league or our right invites as per US teams and the north. That leaves only 7 spots for what is deemed deserving invites. As for NYR tell me what they have done NOTHING!!!!!!!!
JC's another NOTHING!!!!! other than they had a bit of a spurt at the end of the season.
And NO! 6 or 7 teams from the G should go. What are you on crack! if either of these teams make it its purely on politial bull SHIIT not merit.

If the Rebels win, that proves once again that the GTHL is the best league! Even if they don't they have proven with their performance in the play-offs that there is parity in the G. Last year it was sixth place Flyers that won the play-offs and all teams ahead in the standings were invited to the OHL Cup. This year there are another 4 teams going for a total of 20. Congrats to JC's and NYR they deserve to go! |

You canot really go by what happened last year because the gthl is much weaker this year as they are the Hosts and they expanded this tournament. Srry but the Dogs, Marlies, Nats and Rebels have consistently showed skill and talent the whole year around and are on top when it counts, in the playoffs. NYR and JCs have came up with a few big games throughout the season and aside from O'Reilly on Jc and Tresham on NYR, there aren't any other reasons why these teams would be invited as some of the wildcard. Remember the scouts are looking for team players not 1-man teams. The only really exception i can see is for the JR's where scouts mayt want to have a good look at O'Reilly and Mcfarland play against the best in Ontario. |
|
Anonymous (no login) 64.15.157.52 | Re: OHL Cup Teams | March 1 2007, 3:28 PM |
Its true. There was heavy discussion among OHL selection committee about whether to invite 6 or 8. 8 Gthl teams will be invited. The top 8. The top 4 with North York Rangers and Junior Canadiens makes sense as Jr.C's have a key prospect and North York has had success in tournament play knocking off top teams. The Red Wings and Sens were questionable but Joe Simon is well connected with the OHL and the Sens and Redwings had good showings near the end of the season. Besides the OHL wants to showcase Canadian kids over kids from Atlanta who have no intention whatsoever of playing in the OHL. Word is also the a couple of northern teams who were supposed to come down are no longer coming down. |

i'll first state that i am a GTHL-backer, and i think the more GTHL teams, the better...but...including 8 teams in the tournament is pushing it. i remember the 87's draft year where teams were killing themselves by the end of the year to get into the tournament. now it seems like making the playoffs is all that is necessary and teams arent playing with any sense of urgency (as long as they get in), which i predict will lead to this tournament's credibility taking some serious blows |

Anonymous (no login) 65.93.213.77 | Re: OHL Cup Teams | March 1 2007, 5:01 PM |
Yep widening the playing field has already hurt the credibility of the event. Top 16 teams, earned base don your own league play, top 2-3 teams per league. That's enough. |

|
Anonymous (no login) 64.26.175.75 | Re: OHL Cup Teams | March 1 2007, 6:07 PM |
Give it up man .... this is the OHL cup not the GTHL cup, it doesn't matter if you beat the Marlies 3 times. The Marlies are a better overall team and will be there as will other deserving teams.
Just because you beat a team that deserves to be there, doesn't mean that by default that your team should be there as well.

Anonymous (no login) 65.93.212.161 | Re: OHL Cup Teams | March 2 2007, 7:34 AM |
When a professional player is honoured or gets traded by/ from a team that they've established themselves with is one thing. It's totally different when a player balls like a baby after losing a qualifying series in minor hockey.
So to answer your question Smyth and Messier aren't softies. |
|
Anonymous (no login) 74.12.105.68 | Re: OHL Cup Teams | March 2 2007, 1:39 PM |
So what you are saying is that these two developed crying later in life? I don't think so. They are both emotional men. You see the word e-motion-al, the key part of the word is motion. Movement. Not standing still. You see people that show emotion work harder than most because they don't want ever experience that feeling of losing again. |
|
Anonymous (no login) 208.10.131.8 | Re: OHL Cup Teams | March 2 2007, 3:11 PM |
Messier - emotions similar to graduating, having a 1st born, seeing a child get married, or being honoured by his jersey being retired.
Smyth - Emotions similar to when there is a loss of a Grandparent, when you lose a best friend, when a hot babe breaks your heart, or when you get traded from a team where you've played your heart out.
R.O. - Emotions like when you lose a teddy bear, when your Dad takes the blanky away, when you can't get that candy at the grocery store.

208.10.131.8 your examples are out to lunch. It all depends on what "meaning" you have been taught to attach to your e-motion.
Someone else could attach a different meaning to the emotion to as you say, "when your grandparent dies." He/she might have been taught to associate the meaning that "its part of life" and we all die. Obviously, he has been taught to associate that losing is not acceptable and it's a signal to work harder. |

are you kidding me? i don't care at all that the JC's got beat out (in fact i'm happy and i hope they dont make the OHL cup) but once you've worked all year long with a team that you eventually look upon as brothers, it's hard to keep your emotions wrapped up. obviously you've never been in a situation like that, and obviously you are overestimating the emotional structure of a teenager compared to yourself (who, i'm assuming, is a grown man).

This kid reminds me of that sucky kid in the neighbourhood who always took his net home in a snit when he didn't get his way in road hockey.
"I'm not having fun because I'm losing. And if I don't get my way, I won't play anymore."
Of course, we needed the net to play, so we promised the little baby we'd all play nicer.
This kids parents need to let him know that it's OK to cry while experiencing a loss, rejection, or injury, but not in front of his peer group.
People are quick to jump all over what they see as a weakness, so holding back tears in front of friends probably isn't a bad idea.
A few other things his parents might want to consider:
*Take his crying very seriously.
*Pay particular attention to his crying when it has no apparent reason.
*Get help for his uncontrolled crying, particularly when he's balling like an 8 year old school girl.
Your welcome. |

An NHL player agent told me today the good American teams will be in the play-downs for their National Championships. There is question whether or not an all-star team from the USA will be invited because typically the really good players play NCAA. There will be 6 teams from the GTHL, as there should be.
Truth of the matter, parity exists through out all the leagues. |
|
Anonymous (no login) 64.26.175.75 | Re: Breakdown of the Teams for the OHL Cup | March 6 2007, 9:34 AM |
The point about the 6 GTHL teams making the OHL cup annoys me; I have watched a lot of GTHL games and I agree there are a lot of good teams. I believe that by allowing this many teams in from one league reduces the credibility of this tournament as you should earn your position (i.e. at least make it to the semi's of your respective playoff's), not have it handed to you based on your reputation. Plus this year I saw some really good teams from other leagues that would deserve it more then the 5th and 6th place teams from the GTHL.
Just my opinion

You have a problem with 5th or 6th place GTHL teams making it to the OHL CUP? Ice Dogs are ranked #1 and are facing an elimination game against the 5th place team. Does that answer your question? Further, Brampton is playing .500 hockey for the past 8 games. People are confusing the fact that this is not a banner year for the GTHL, however they can compete on a depth level with any league in the world, let a lone Ontario for that matter.

I agree with what you are saying. You should earn a spot based on performance now not on what you did long before.
What you have to remember about this farce of a OHL Cup Showcase Tournament is that this is a GTHL OHL CUP Showcase Tournament and it is all about the GTHL. They don't want ANYBODY in it who can displace their beloved GTHL teams.
Scouts think that it is all a joke. Its not about getting TEAMS together to showcase their talents, its about getting INDIVIDUAL names together and showcasing THEM, not your team as a whole.

I'm not saying that the 5th and 6th place teams aren't good teams, all I am saying is that you should earn your place there. I am also not saying that the 5th and 6th place teams are the teams that finished in those positions in the regular season. I am saying that teams should earn there spot there, and the teams that loose in the first round should not earn a spot in the tournament.
The tournament should be a reward for a earning your spot (whether that be making the semi's or winning the league).
Where is the sense of achievement if everyone gets into the party?
Like I said just my opinion

I wrote the last list on how many teams from each area. The breakdown was from a reliable individual. I was not saying that the GTHL does not have good 5 or 6th place teams, but the GTHL is only drawing 4 places. So you can add the teams you think you want to see as long as it fits four spots.
Also, it is not a "GTHL OHL CUP" it is a cup representing the broad spectrum of deserving teams across the landscape.
When the actual list comes out, I am pretty sure I will be close.

You are missing the point. The #1 ranked team in North America (Ice Dogs) are facing elimination in their next game by a team that finished 5th in the GTHL. It took the last game of the year to decide 4th, 5th and 6th, all separated by only 2 points. GTHL should and will have 6 teams involved. That makes sense! |
|
Anonymous (no login) 64.26.175.75 | Re: Breakdown of the Teams for the OHL Cup | March 6 2007, 1:09 PM |
I think you are missing the point...
If the number 1 ranked team looses in the first round then they should not get a birth in the OHL cup. You should EARN your spot by winning at least a round.
Also, teams being separated by a point or two is not exclusive to the GTHL look at every league, you will be surprised at how close teams are.
And like I said it is my opinion, but I think 6 teams from one league would be too much as there would not be anything special in qualifying

You think the #1 team in North America gets upset in the first round and they should be watching the OHL CUP? Wow! Enough said. |
|
Anonymous (no login) 64.26.175.75 | Re: Breakdown of the Teams for the OHL Cup | March 6 2007, 3:15 PM |
yes I do .... But as this is not a true championship it won't happen
If the presidents cup champions get knocked out in the first round do you think the should be allowed to the finals anyway? you know because they were ranked no. 1

Last years Don Mills Flyers(90's) finished 6th in the GTHL,went on to win the GTHL title and then to the OHL CUP semi final losing only to the Waxers in a close game. The Waxers went on to win the Cup with Stamkos and DelZotto going 1-2 in the Draft. The waxers were coached by a top notch coach and a 6th place GTHL team gave them all they could handle. Goes to show that some Leagues are stronger then others. |

Some teams eventually knock off the top teams because the top teams have beaten the same teams so often that they just plain get bored. You beat a team every year for say the last 3 years and its hard to get up for the game. |

No, it is a OHL CUP SHOWCASE by the GTHL. It is the GTHL. The GTHL has everything to do with it. Thats why the GTHL gets to decide everything.
My opinion but the truth, just ask around |

The OHL cup has already started to set up the tournament. The rosters are being posted for some of the teams that have been invited. 9 down and 11 to go.
Marlies
Cambridge
Waterloo
Kingston
Rochester
Gloucester
Compuware
T.P.H. 91's
Thunder Bay
And no I have no clue as to who T.P.H 91's are |

TPH is the Atlanta team that Uwe Krupp coaches. There are a couple of highly-touted prospects on the team making the trip.
Now Georgia is playing elite hockey - coming to an OHL Cup nearest you? Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma etc.
Just think of how many NCAA scholarships are going to be available to Canadian players when the other 40 US states figure out how to develop players?
Scary indeed! |

why do people just randomly throw teams into the mix by claiming there are listed teams on the ohl website. unless there's an unofficial one, the only thing that you'll find interesting on the ohl cup website right now are the top ten rankings |

You can't compare the gthl 90's to the 91's. The gthl 90's were an exceptional group, just look how many made Team Ontario. Other than the top four a case could be made for any other teams in different leagues. Don Mills who finished 6th won the GTHL and went to the semi's losing to the Red Wings. The 5th place team Vaughan beat the Waxers twice in tournaments. This year there is going to be 4 or 5 teams that are snubbed who may be deserving. Get to the finals of your league then you don't have to worry, because wild cards are based on opinions. |

Valley seems to think they deserved to be in the finals, instead of gloucester but as stated, if that were the case, they wouldn`t had got their @$$ kicked in the last game of the year deciding who get to avoid kingston, gloucestr just had nothing to play for as they were already going to the OHL cup hich is every boys dream |

There aren't any kids on Barrie they want to see.

If that happens then that is a black mark on their organization. They should be fighting now, and not waiting. But, apparently that is how they play, fair and good guys. What do they say about good guys? always finish last.
Again, the OHL CUP is not about TEAMS, it is about players they want to see.
