Very close game, could have gone either way. Typical playoff hockey with tight checking. Whoever capitalizes on their chances will win this series. These teams are evenly matched. Should be a good long series. |

Both teams are weak around the net. Whoever has the toughness to take a hit and finish in those scrambles will come out the winner here. |

Prediction: Ice Dogs 8 Marlies 4
Ice Dogs survived 2 elimination games against the Rebels and are now play-off mentally tough. Zador will have to stand on his head if Marlies have any chance to win. |

Close, Marlies win 5-2. Strong performance for the Blue and white. 4-0, 4-2, 5-2. Hat trick by one Marlie player.
Series tied 2-2, next game Wednesday. |

The captain had a great game and it appeared the Dogs were struggling to contain the Marlie oz line who were pressuring all night. Dogs get there big defensemen back next game and we should see a different game. Two great teams, should be a great series! |

Zador was the difference in this game. Marlies got outstanding goaltending and Dogs didn't. Players can play and acheive big things, Catancci's contributed huge, however, Zador gave them the chance to win. |

To 74.12 I think you must have been at a different game than the rest of us. Marlies were all over the Dogs in period 1 and Dogs were lucky to only be down 2-0. Two huge Dogs give-aways in the 2nd allowed 2 clear break-away goals by the Marlies and that made it 4-0. Dogs started the 3rd with their back-up goalie and quickly got 2 goals. Up to that point Dogs didn't have many good scoring chances and their powerplay was especially weak. The story of this game was the Marlies pressure on the Dogs D which created many turnovers and mistakes. |

let's look at the facts Catenacchi spears Chiarot and then gets slashed in return ... Wright is sent off the bench to attack Chiarot ... if only the ref could count he would of seen 6 blue shirts and the goalie on the ice for the Marlies .... but counting isn't included in ref school. |

The Marlies would have you believe that they are saints, but lets look at the facts last night:
Marlie bench warmer sent off the bench to instigate fight with Dogs top D to get him out of the game (and Marlies got the extra 2 minutes).
#10 Hit from behind on #22 of Dogs, clearly missed by Ref and as a result another dog took a rabbit punch at 10 and got a penalty.
The kid with the silent 1st letter in his name running the Dogs goalie (and getting a penalty). In fact, I believe there was another penalty earlier where a Marlie hacked the goalie after he had the puck frozen.
#19 on the Marlies who is just plain dirty and too many incidents to bore you with.
Are the Dogs saints, absolutely not. But it takes two to tango. Aside from all the chippy stuff, Marlies have been the better team in every game this series and the Dogs have to pick-up their game, starting tonight. This is not the time to settle scores. |

Not a great game last night by these two great teams. But the Marlies quickness paid off and so did getting the top defensive Dog off the ice for practically every period of this series so far. He was lost due to CFB call early in Game 1 and the fight was early last night, too. They miss Ellis, LARGE. His quickness and anticipation skills combined with the loss of Chiarot out there and suddenly the Dog defense is being exploited by the quick Marlie offense, at least last night they were. Both goalies played well. Both teams looked a little tired, especially the Dogs. How could anyone ever count them out though? With their history there is no need to panic at all. I would expect a different dynamic gets added on the larger ice surface the next two games, too. But I really have to question this series leading right into the highest profile tournament of their young careers for both of these teams. With all the elite level hockey these 15 year olds are playing, rest and nutrition are HUGE factors. They are ranked 1 and 2 but some other teams out there are playing well right now too and they could be fresher come show time. I have to wonder if they are going to wear each other out for the OHL Cup. |

Like the previous post, the Marlies speed and skill seems to frustrating the Dogs team. The Marlies OZ line has been very difficult for the Dogs to handle and these players are now scoring on a regular basis with two of the three goals coming from these players last night. Dogs need to foucs on this line more because they are hurting them but than again Marlies have two lines playing well. Lets also acknowlegde that Zador has also been great and the penalty killing has been effective as well. Having Foy in the back end has made their back end much better. Dogs are frustrated and it has been showing but like the previous post states, don't count the Dogs out, we have a way of always coming through adversities like they did with the Rebels. |

Catenacci tripped the Dogs player up. Good call.
The terrible play was the Marlies not being able to get the puck out of their own end down a man to preserve the win.
Ice Dogs very poor passing all game. Couldn't get out of own end. Very sloppy game for them.
Marlies moved the puck a lot better than the Dogs. Stand out was Erlich. Incredible speed, great slap shot goal. Does it while double shifting the entire third period and killing penalties. Maybe it was an off game for the Cat, but Erlich looked like the best player on the ice by far. Too bad he is so small. Again, speed is incredible.
The big guns for the Dogs didn't show up. A lot of that had to do with the poor passing breaking out of their own end by the defenseman. I am sure Grapes enjoyed Aggazino over celebrating the game tying goal. Reminds me of Ovechkin. Hope he and Santini, Fine and Czikas pick things up for the next game.
All in all good game to watch.
Note to Ice Dogs moms. It's "Ice Dogs" not "Ice Dog". That french lady screaming go "Ice Dog" all game is so damn annoying I wish someone would just.............you know

Marlies should have won but, they couldn't put away their chances. Perugini looked a bit shakey and let in two marginal goals but was big late in the third stopping a clear breakaway. Chariot had his worse game in along time and was brutal defensively. Best players for each team were Erlich, Zanetti, Cizikas, and Corrente. |

The Dogs goalie didn't make a good save on the Erlich breakaway. Erlich was hooked and could have been awarded a penalty shot. Drew the penalty anyways.
Chariot did hit the post on the game winning goal from a nice hard slap shot which Aggie picked up and buried home. Chariot was shaky early on missing shots from the point over and over. Emotion yes on the game tying goal, but way over board. Save it for the next game.

I guess everyone sees what they want too see in order to self gratify themselves. Don't forget 90% of the parents on both teams only focus on their own kid so any assessment of what really happens is often very biased. I thought it was an exciting game with alot great talent. There is no need to single-out players good or bad. Stick to the team stuff. |

To 64.228 I would enlist the help of a good optomotrist. Erlich had a break-away with a Dogs D man on him and the goalie made a poke check ala Johnny Bower (is that a save, who really cares)? The clear break away was Hnatko and yes I believe the goalie made a save on that one. |

Stupid penalty by Catenacci. When your up 2-1 with under a minute left in the game theres no need to have your stick anywhere near the guys feet. With his speed he should have been able to catch Fine no problem. Great game from Erlich and Zanetti. Both teams shortened up the benches as much as they could and it paid off for the marlies until the panalty at the end.Gonna be in for a good one tomorrow night. Lots of emotion is going to be shown. |

Anonymous (no login) 74.113.238.137 | Re: Non bias here | March 19 2007, 8:50 AM |
There were alot of marginal penalty calls. Maybe the one late in the game was marginal but so was the one that put the Dogs down 2 men and resulted in the 2nd Marlie goal. If you believe the experts, these things tend to even-out over a long series. |

The Dogs are just that much bigger over a seven game series. Games on consecutive nights killed the Marlies due to lack of strength. Both teams had great games. |
|
Anonymous (no login) 74.12.105.98 | Re: Non bias here | March 20 2007, 2:22 PM |
I predicted Dogs would win series 8-4 even after Marlies went ahead 4-2. The final series score ended 9-5 because Marlies goaltending is better.
The Dogs have the best collective group of defencemen in North America. They are big, mobile and can join the rush. By the end of the year the void Ellis left behind was less evident. In the end more than one Ellis emerged. Corrente improved to the point where he's expected to go high in the draft. Chariot is a rock (MVP GTHL) and Robertson is the most reliable stay at home defenceman in the GTHL. And, they have 3 great forwards and are favorites to win the OHL Cup. |

Missed the last 2 games. Zader was hot coming out of the Rebels series and the first 3 games of the Finals. Dogs goalie picked it up after that and the rest is history. It almost always comes down to goaltending, which was basically equal between the two teams after game 3. |

In fact, I think the best player on the ice in this series was the Ice Dogs goaltender. Marlies had numerous opportunities and controlled the play with their speed, quickness and creativity for parts of every game but they couldn't seem to finish. They never had that one game where you break away from your oponents and everything starts going in. It's no coincidence just great goaltending. You have to give him his props. |

Ice Dogs can get great goaltending at times, but it's not consistent. Marlies have a good forwards, however when Ice Dogs have their big 3 defencemen on the ice, they don't get many second chances. |
