It should be that way. To play against 20 year olds in the year that you TURN 16 is absolutely insane for these boys in most cases. Many move to Junior at this age and pay a price for that which often times results in defeat and discouragement to the point that hockey is never the same for them again. I've seen it over and over in my capacity with a Junior team. The problem is that the organizations in the Junior systems want to tag these kids before anyone else does so the sooner they peg them, the more certainty they have of owning their rights.

Midget Hockey-Let's Buy A Team- Dad

April 12 2007, 7:01 PM

Guys,

There is nothing wrong with playing 1-2 yrs of Midget. Everyone out of M.Midget think they can step up to Jr. If you are not one of the top players coming out of M.Midget( MEANING 1ST/2nd ROUND PICKS) enjoy another year of Minor Hockey. The guys in Jr are quicker, older, stronger, and some are very physical and it's not fair to a 16 yr old.

However there are people out there like Baker & Pirri who think there is nothing left for their kids to learn in MINOR HOCKEY, so they will take one of the 23 spots on "Daddy's Jr team", and a team will not improve with this kind of thinking. Justin Baker really should be in AA hockey, not AAA because Dad and his Buddy Coach a AAA team. Within a yr Pirri could be a very good Jr player, but a yr of Midget first to improve some parts of his game, and someone to Coach this young player, because Baker didn't.

ENJOY HOCKEY, AND PLAY ANOTHER 1-2 YEARS OF MIDGET BEFORE YOU MOVE ON TO THE NEXT LEVEL. I am sure Angry Man will agree.
