Should be called the OHL under 17 camp not Ontario U17 Camp as they only want OHL bound players on it.U17 will continue to loose with the bull crap politics.Usa is on the move.Canadians invented the game and American will perfect it .Wake up Canada.Get rid of the scammers.

If you're going to make such a bold statement, put your money where your mouth is.

Name some non-OHL players who should have been selected to the final U-17 in the past few years, and name the OHL players they should have replaced.

Incidentally, your facts on the prowess of the US are incorrect. The US NDTP has won only once in the past four tournaments, even though they are the only team that plays together all year. Plus, Canada is split into five separate teams. Given this format, the US SHOULD be the favourite every time, at least on paper.

Buddy, after a 60 - 70 game season, the best players have risen to the top. Most of the top players are identified and placed on the OHL draft list. (I know that some are missed . . . accept it and move on!) So it only makes sense that the boys who are at the top of the draft list are the most likely candidates for a spot on the U17 Team. My son is on the draft list and didn't make the cut. He was disappointed but knew going in his chances were slim . . . he was already told by his agent that the kids who are rated AA or A will most likely move on while others won't. There might be a few surprises but not many. Generally the surprises are with the forwards not the D or goalies. Look at the rosters for Guelph (when they're available) and see for yourself. These Camps are all totally predictable.

There are some B rated players that made it on. Because they know they have to try harder and they usually impress the evaluators more so than an A player that may not try as hard.

Have to agree with 64.34

It should be called the OHL Under 17 camp. Cause the first two rounds of the OHL are chosen to represent. It is what it is.

Your son may be on the list. But, I am sure YOUR camp was legite. All AAA players viaing for a spot.

OMHA regionals, such as Collingwood and Southpoint were a complete joke. So all of the best WERE not invited. Politics.

Your year went well. But others did not because of politics, coaches coaching sons and good ole boys screwing kids because they can.

Imagine this 40-50 year old men screwing 15 year old boys. It is hard enough for a man of your age to suck it up. But, yet you expect a boy of 15 to do it. your 15 year ols fate is in the hands of a mother fukker. With motives.

Give your head a shake. Sure it is life, and a life lesson, but this is hockey. Pretty sure the powers that be promote:

"For the good of the game."

" For the kids"

" Its all about the kids"

Yeah!

Re: ONTARIO U 17 CAMPS

I agree with you. My son's year went well but it wasn't without its own share of politics. He has had some dismal years in hockey too. I honestly think that what goes around comes around and those who do themselves favours and screw others will eventually get their share of grief.

Our Camp, Georgetown, was Ok but there were some questionable decisions made, There were also some very good AAA players left off the invitation and I guess, replaced by AA and A players. It looks like the politics was thicker in the areas such as Southpoint and Collingwood for whatever reason. That's too bad and it shouldn't be that way!

I don't know how true this is, but I heard over the course of the weekend that players who are destined for the NCAA will be sidestepped (after the draft on May 5th) for OHL bound players. I guess we'll see if that's true or not.

There's no doubt that this is an OHL driven process because for players who do not go the U.S.college route and wish to reach the highest level of hockey in Ontario, the OHL is it. I suppose we could interpret this as the equivalent to the Prospects Tournament being for NCAA recruitment.

Maybe what should be done is to have one Camp at the end of June that is a week long. All players who attend are there by invitation only. Make it mandatory that players must have been on the OHL draft list and drafted by an OHL team. Take the top 72 forwards, 48 defencemen, and top 16 goalies. Form 8 teams and off you go. Cut down the list of players as the week goes by so that by the end of the week the team is selected. The best players should be represented as this should about selecting the best from the best.

U-17 Myth Dispelled

April 24 2007, 12:53 PM

RE: "OHL" U-17

WRONG FOLKS! This just in - the U-17 program DOES select players to the team regardless of their "NCAA interest"!

Both Brandon Burlon and Corey Trivino who have NCAA aspirations were selected to the U-17 this past year and BOTH were OHA Jr.A. players! Both Burlon (Owen Sound) and Trivio (Barrie) did not report to the OHL teams that drafted them last spring.

Dozens of NCAA-bound players have played on the Team Ontario U-17 before - the 91's probably won't be an exception either!

Here are the NCAA-bound players that made the U-17 camp in recent memory.

This should put this argument to bed quickly!

1990's - Burlon, Trivino

1989's - Cody Goloubef (to Wisconsin?), Brendan Smith (to Wisconsin?)

1987's - Jason Bailey (Michigan to Ottawa), Julian Zamparo (W. Michigan)

1986's - Wes O'Neill (Notre Dame) Vic Oreskovich (Notre Dame to Kitchener)

1985's - Luc Aquino (Maine to Brampton), David Brown (Notre Dame), Matt Christie (Miami-Ohio)

1984's - Dale Good (Clarkson to Soo), Rick Janco (St. Lawrence), Bryan McGregor (Minnesota-Duluth)

1982's - Mike Cammaleri (Michigan), Carter Trevisani (Ohio St. to Ottawa)

1979's - Mike Van Ryn (Michigan to Sarnia)

1978's - Mike Weaver (Michigan State)

1977's - Ben Storey (Harvard)

1976's - Dan Boyle (Miami-Ohio), Mike Watt (Michigan State)

1975's - Mike Legg (Michigan)

1973's - Aaron Ward (Michigan), Adrian Aucoin (Boston U.)

1972's - Kelly Harper (Michigan State)

1971's - David Harlock (Michigan State), Kris Draper (comm. to NCAA then OHL), Cam Stewart (Michigan State)

Agree with 74.114..it has been in the news recently that many NCAA players are returning to play Jr. A / OHL..and attending Canadian Univ..mainly because they do not get enough playing time.

The Goods on Trevino

April 25 2007, 8:02 PM

Part 1

Lets not forget what he did to Jason Pain.Pain asks the team not to play school hockey on the days that the Marlies had practice or games. So what does Captain golden boy Trevino do , plays school hockey anyways. The result Pain removes the "C" from Trevino and suspends him for the next game.So the superstar Trevino quits the team, great move.Refuses to come back till Pain is canned. So Trevino kills 1 coach and has his buddy parent coach take the team ,Brown.Trevino misses half the season but still leads the team in points, phantom points that is courtesy of Brown.

Part 2

Trevino heads to Stoufville, not without cutting a deal again. He wants his little buddy Dave with him on the bench so that he can control the situation.
Dave is also having his way with Trevino's mom.Season ends,Stoufville cans there coaches , all the staff quit , all the players want out.Little buddy Dave is now head coach.Well again Trevino pulls it off ,no conflict of interest there right....not!!Another coach killed.Tevino is soft like jello and a suck and cry baby.

Part 3

Can hardly wait.

If the team was picked later in the year both burlon and trevino would not have made it. both were less than average in the tournament.

The OMHA final is in Guelph and is $240.00. The next camp which is the top 15 from each league is $500.00 and will also be in Guelph. That takes place in June

You have got to be kidding me. Basically $1000.00 to go through the camps so that you have the privelage of attending the final camp & then they will just pick based on your draft position & performance during the year.

The under 17 camps really should be boycotted.

Or how about $1 from every 1991 playing hockey annually in the OHF goes toward programs like this. That should generate about $150,000.

Thats right folks, it was already picked and decided.

But, what an experience. How's your ass?

My son was asked, and yes we declined.

He has played WITH and AGAINST most of these players for years. This is just another camp. Just another hockey game, just anhter game.

I would just be lining their pocket to play more of the same we just finshed up with.

You got to look a little deeper and beyond the flash and glitter they have put into it.

If they really wanted your son you wouldn't have to pay, they would be calling you. Not you chasing them.

Crock, poor kid,

No bud, for real. My son is not blind, it is what it is. If they want you they will call you.

You do not need to fork out $ 1,000.00.

Jus ask the kids who received letters and phone calls asking them to represent Team Ontario.

They will show up at the main camp.

Just ask yourself who did not atend camp that SHOULD of been there?

They have already been ivited to attend main camp and wave the regionals and camps leading up to Main.
