Looking thru the OHL website and noted: Ellis and Hall doing very well in Windsor
Fine doing pretty good in the Soo
Blachar-no stats? Is he hurt?
Corrente in Oshawa-not getting much ice
Shugg in Oshawa doing good and getting ice
O'rielly getting points but in a bad situation
Kennedy in Sarnia doing well and getting ice
Cizikas doing well and scoring at St. Mikes
Agazinno doing well at Niagara
**Where have all the goalies gone? None in the O that I can see.
Any info on others?
Notice how quiet it is on the 1991-54 website. Is this a coincidence?

How are the Whitby boys (Pachis and Martindale) doing? Still trying to find themselves I think. Also just realized that there are No Marlies that have made it to the O. In fact, while some 1991's are doing very well there are no 1991's that stand up to the cream of the 1990 group.

Fine doing vey well in the Soo. Tough coach but Michael is earning his ice, he has the respect of his teamates as well, he will be a big part of the team next year, that is the Hartsburg way. There are multiple players on the Soo that have signed NHL contracts so they are the ones carrying the load this year.

For those 91's in the O congrats. It is a huge jump and a very difficult adjustment I am sure moving away from home, new school, etc. Stats mean nothing for these 16 yr olds since they are just getting their feet wet and should all be contributors to their teams next season. Ice time largely depends on the dynamics of the team they are on. If it is a rebuilding team the kids see ice, if it is a contending team they usually don't. On a different note I heard the U17 team may be announced this weekend. Anyone know about that.

These postings are far from complete. How do you mention Ellis without Hall? ODMHA product just turning 16 and probably 30 lbs under potential weight. Lots of upside and a favourite of Don Cherry.Remove Tavares from the equation-and this kid stacks up pretty solidly against any of the 1990's.

November 10 2007, 3:12 PM

the original poster mentions Taylor in the 1st line.....!!!

any one of us 91 parents following the OHL knows what a great job he is doing
for the spits.

he is a good kid from a very positive family.

in fact he is often a topic of discussion in GTHL rinks as most GTA 1991 hocky families dont know of him.

all that being said, every single one of the 91's currently playing in the OHL should be commended and watched whenever you can.

Playing games in the "O" at age 16 regardless of how "important" your minutes are is a significant accomplishment.

Not everyone can be a "Stammer" or a JT just like not every pro player can be a Heatley or a Spez.

Whatever your level or status a player should be accorded his accolades even if it is Tier II or Midget AAA. Let them enjoy their success, for many it is fleeting.

Any news on the under-17 Team Ontario yet? Would any tier 2 guys get picked since not too many are playing OHL on a regular basis?

Tier 2 guys are at a disadvantage for sure when it comes to this process. The competition at that level is very inferior to the OHL and evaluators will generally lean towards the OHL guys in most cases. Having said that, I like Blacker and hope he makes the team but with Ellis likely to make it very unlikely they would take 2 defenceman from the same OHL organization.

Re: 1991's In The OHL(Updates)

November 14 2007, 12:59 AM

I wish that were true that the best 22 are picked, but you will find out that they don't want too many guys from one OHL team because it will make the other GM's look like they didn't draft well. They try, within reason of course, to get as many OHL teams covered on the U17 as possible. Don't forget who runs this thing. There are too many 16 year olds playing tier 2 and unless one is absolutely dominating it would be hard to pick one guy in tier 2 over another. Since there are less 16 yr olds in the OHL, whether they are better or not, they are the more popular pick. The U17 program is not there to promote Tier 2 hockey whether you want to believe it or not.

the ironic thing is that tier2 hockey is under the umbrella of hockey canada
which we all pay for through our taxes so tier2 players should have equal chance of being picked...I will speak with my MP about it!!!!!ah! ah!

The only Tier II guys that hace a chance are first rounders that are sitting out to go to NCAA, if you weren't a high first rounder like a Cogliano type player with a hight profile you have no chance. It will be O players and standout Tier II players.

Re: 1991's In The OHL(Updates)

November 14 2007, 3:57 PM

Werek days are over, Dad greased his way through MM and after duping Kingston to pad his little player even more, he sticks him on his Jr team with his old minor hockey coach. Is it only me or do these people not get it? All they are doing is spending their money to get some sort of school deal which they can pay for anyway. Is it for the prestige? Bragging rights a family functions?

This kid has no futrue unless it's bought and paid for, he's too protected, too managed and lacks any kind of reality, a teddy bear who can skate. He will go as far as Santini and that doesn't say much does it?

Maybe his dad helped out a little? Give me an effin break. 15 points & 10 of them are on the PP. How many 91's see so much PP time? There was absolutely no way he should have gone to BC. You can thank his dad 100% for that.

There are alot of dad's with money; promoting and paying for their kids and they are nowhere. You can't buy a OHL Cup scoring title, 4 OHL Cup MVP's, 15 points in ten games in Tier II and the only 16 year old in B.C.. The kid works his ass off.

Re: 1991's In The OHL(Updates)

November 15 2007, 12:08 PM

I don't think the point of this is EW's work ethic or abilites. I think the point of this is at times equally talented and hard working players don't get the same opportunity to show their stuff becasue they don't have someone looking out for them to guarantee ice time, selections to teams, high powered agents and that sort of stuff. Hockey is not fair, never has been. It is alot about catching a break and often times that is the difference between the guy who makes it and the guy who doesn't. Often times those breaks are just pure luck but often times those breaks are purchased for you or given to you based on "who you know" or "who you are". So let us not be to naive here thinking that everyone that gets somewhere in hockey gets their on talent alone.

Money can buy your health if u live the the U.S. of A.

It can also buy you a coach(or two)in the GTHL to personally showcase your kid and afford him the opportunity to succeed ahead of his similarly talented teammates but I'm not singling out any player or coach(s) in particular, ahem.

Make your kid look good

November 15 2007, 5:28 PM

I think the best way to promote your kid is to buy a GTHL coach, if he gets suspended simply buy another one and then buy a Jr team to showcase your kid furthur after you tell your OHL team you will sign and then that OHL coach will get fired. After that, hire your suspended GTHL coach to coach your Jr team so your 16 yr old kid can pad his stats on the PP and get more ice!

I know this all seems too far fetched and could never actually happen, but if it did, you could really make a kid look better than he really is. Just an idea though.

You must really be pissed off!

November 17 2007, 5:20 PM

You must really be pissed off! And I think you have a right to be! If I knew of a guy who started out with nothing worked his ass off to build a business and make something of himself and taught the values of working hard to his kid and giving him the best training at an early age, making his business successful so he can have the time to take his kid to training, games, practices, more training, tournaments etc. then buying a Provincial Jr A team 9-10 years before his kid is even eligible to play for that team, not because he loves the game and the community he lives in and perish the thought of giving all those other kids a chance to play and helping them in their careers then I would be pissed off too! Knowing that I could have done that too but instead I sat around on my fat ass watching soap operas, eating bon-bons, smoking too much, gossiping on the phone with my girlfriends complaining about other kids and their successes instead of taking a real hard look at my own failings and most of all taking up my precious TV watching time to get on this forum to wine and bitch about others to make my self feel better about not doing everything I could for my son. I would be really, really pissed off!

Now do us all a favor. EW works hard, is a great player and by the way being 6’2” 190lbs doesn’t hurt either. Now go and get yourself another job, save some money to help your son, it may not be too late, and stop bitching about others. Oh yeah! Put down that piece of pie! Have you had a good look at your hips lately!

Probably about the same ratio of 91's playing real minutes in the OHL as there are playing real minutes in Tier 2 (I have heard of alot of unhappy 91 parents in Tier 2 as well). The calibre of hockey is so much better in the OHL that even if you are playing a little less minutes you are probably developing at a faster pace. But agreed, if you have to be in the OHL warming the bench or stands then I say go play Tier 2 or midget, wherever you can get the best value out of your icetime.

Just practicing with the OHL squad is good for development. You get to be around OHL players and watch the games. Case and point; Jared Stall. Last season he was seeing two shifts a game in the playoffs. Now look at him. Being around in that atmostphere with packed crowds is also good for development between the ears. It's mostly mental when all things are equal.
