No surprise there. I was at the game Sunday and watched Erlich set up Toffoli for a tap in. After the goal, you could see Erlich's frustration during his celebration, or lack of a celebration. Tyler Cragg has been riding him all year trying to get him working harder. I think the kid should be playing in the OHL and is pissed because his father wants him to go NCAA route instead. Either way, it doesn't look good on the kids resume.

I'll tell one thing, Dale Hunter makes Tyler Cragg appear to be Mother Teresa when it comes to even starring you down. If Erlich decides to try the OHL he better check and check his ego at the door. I think the kid is smart enough to make the adjustments and he will do it.

Re: Nightmare!

Somtimes 16 yr olds don't know what is best for them and parents have to step in. From everything I heard Erlich is a pretty good student and lets face it, at his size he has little chance of being a pro player. But playing NCAA gives him more years to play at a high level and maybe by the time he has finished school at age 22/23 pro hockey will have continued to change allowing more small players in the game. I think his parents are making a smart choice pushing him the NCAA route. The OHL is the fast track for kids that are early bloomers and have alot of hype behind them going into the NHL draft.

forcein ur kids to do something is how kids never forgive ther parents and dont see or talk to him. maybe ncaa is a better choise but lettin ur children make ther own desicions is wut really matters

Do we really know for sure that the kid wants to play in the OHL, and why would he quit the team? I don't know the circumstances of how he was being treated on the team, but quitting is usually the worst option if you want to advance your hockey career.

TC and ME as coaches go are the bottom of the barrell. Very few players on that team want to be there. Good for DE for making the decision to better himself versus taking part in the JC GonG ShoW that Cragg and Edwards are hosting.

Nonetheless you don't want to get a reputation as a "quitter". Surely there must have been a better way to handle this situation (like maybe asking for a trade but continuing to play in the meantime).

He did nothing in the OHA & he will do less in the OHL. As far as I can recall the Knights don't play Ajax.

Maybe they can sell some tickets Barnum & Bailey style of the dwarf playing hockey.

The kid didn't quit. It seems to me he wasn't happy where he was playing and decided to see if there was an opportunity to move up to the OHL. He should do fine there.

There could be worse places to play junior hockey than London. He will do fine so long as he (and dad) check their egos at the door and Danial eases-up a bit with the cockiness he displayed in minor hockey.

GM Mark Hunter commented that he had played with Theiry Flurin (pardon spelling) and Nasland, both were about the same size as Erlich, they both excelled in the NHL. Most of Erlich's points came at even strength with Tier II club. Furthermore, he would have been drafted in the first 3 rounds had he not declare he was going NCAA route.

Re: Nightmare!

December 6 2007, 5:16 PM

This forum is great. If you have been following the discussion on Erlich over the last while, then you saw posts last year that Erlich will never be good enough to play in the OHL. Then when he got drafted in the 7th round, a bunch of people thought this was proof that he was not that good (e.g. someone would have taken a flier on him in an earlier round). Now the 16 year old is playing in the O and people are still tearing him and his family apart. Look at the end of the day the kid made it to the O. Good for him and good for his family.

My bet is that if the kid ever makes the show (and at his size its a long shot) the same people who have been taking shots at Daniel and Ari will be the first to kiss ass and tell all their friends at the bars how they knew erlich way back when.

And if the kid never makes it to the show, at the end of the day for a 5'5 kid to have scholarship offers at div 1 schools and to play in the O at 16 is pretty impressive.

Happy Hebrew Christmas. The "elves" are out helping Santa steal from the kids. The "Erlich" elves take all the Christmas presents and store them in a secure cave where only people 4'4" can get into. They take, take, take, and them cry foul when told they have to work as a group.

Love them or hate them, the fact remains the kid has talent and only time will tell whether he can succeed at this level. My gut feeling tells me he will and he is in the perfect place because the Hunters won't take any BS from him or his parents. He will leave London as a better hockey player for sure and if he wants I am sure there will be pro opportunities waiting for him if not in North America then Europe where his size won't be as much of a factor.

Hey, 67.69.99.154, I have a theory on you. My guess is that your kid was not drafted (or was drafted late) and you blame this on politics in hockey. Your kid is probably playing in AAA or maybe is a fourth liner on a tier 2 team - unless of course you happen to be a part owner. Am I right?
