I doubt that. Check the OHL website. The Soo traded his rights to St Mikes today. I gotta believe that St Mikes would have talked to Mayer about his intention to sign and play with them before pulling the trigger on the trade.

He will be playing at St. Mikes.. Arrogant, spoiled player that could not leave home to play for the Soo, great hockey town, loyal fans and a great coach. He likes to be the centre of attention but I don't think he is going to get the red carpet treatment against Cizikas. |

There may be other extenuating circumstances that made playing in the Soo impossible. I remind you that life doesn't revolve around hockey, and there are things that make certain decisions in life more difficult. Take for example a player who had to return from a scholarship and play for a local Junior A team to spend time with his ill father. |

So what was his excuse! none!!!!!! He is a baby that could not leave home, prima donna. Now he will play in Mississauga, close to mommy and daddy. When you indicate you want to play in the O and are luck enough to get drafted, you should be honoured, show character and go to the team that drafted you and not be a selfish prima donna. Do you think he is the only kid that would prefer to play closer to home, he is not. I'm sure alot of the 16 year old that went to play far this year are missing their family and the support but they don't cry and act like prima donnas. Instead they welcomed the chance to play in the O because playing hockey is their dream wherever it may be. Personally I think the Soo made the wrong move, they should have not traded him and let him go the NCAA route like he claimed when he did not report to the Soo. |

About 50 kids said they wouldn't report to the Soo every year - Mayer included.
Soo picked him anyways - others who were picked didn't report to several other teams as well.
Mayer gets the heat just because he was a first round pick by a team who didn't listen. Others who were picked in other rounds felt the same way for other clubs too - you just didn't hear about them.
The scenario could have been completely avoided had the Soo just selected another player.
If Kingston would have just selected him instead of gambling on Werek - it would have been a situation completely avoidable.
Situations happen like this all the time - its just that the first rounders are much more higher profile. |

easy buddy, just because you didnt get drafted and would give your left nut to have a chance to try out doesnt mean that everyone else is the same.
And sure ppl move to go play hockey, but the sault is ridiculus. Farthest travel in the O and can you blame him for not wanting to go in his rookie year where he wouldnt get as much ice as he is in jr. a. even the organization realizes that players dont want to play up there, in the 2006 draft they took 4 players from the sault. north stars, and dont try to tell me thats a co-incidence.
And in no way did the soo make a bad move, they have an excellent team this year and are making a run at the memorial cup. When this happens teams always trade away prospects for vetrans. Caria is a proven point producer and will beef up an already strong lineup. Weather mayer was playin or not there was a good chance he would have been traded to help make a run at the cup.
how bout you think your sh*t out before you open your mouth next time |

Ask Carter or Kennedy or Godfrey or Jeffries how they enjoyed the Soo? Strong coach, won't kow-tow to agent pressure, kids stay out of trouble or else. Not a bad place to put your kid. I guess the parents want to watch every game so Southern On is the way to go. Team Canada Jr Coach, former NHL coach and player. |

I never said the Soo was a bad place to play - not sure where you got that idea from.
What I said was is that there are several kids each year that the Soo avoids selecting in the draft because of similar issues that Mayer had.
I'd play for Craig Hartsburg in a minute and players are treated like Gods up there even in the lean years.
I think you missed my point about the Soo. |

heres a question, did the soo every talk to mayer about goin ther u would think that they would be 100% sure he would report. either mayer screwed over the soo or the soo needs to think before they draft |

Mr. Mayer made his debut in the Soo and recieved the reception he deserved. As the local paper indicates he offended the players and they sure let Mr Mayer know by beating his team of choice by 8 to 1. Mr Mayer played on the third line with very limited ice time. |

I just think it's getting ridiculous that players are running the draft now a days. Teams can't even take the best players available due to politics and under the table deals. Kids should be happy to get drafted, not where they go. |

I guess there are reasons why you would not go to the soo, but I don't understand any of them! My boy is going thru his draft year this year and we have been contacted by the soo. The first thing they asked was, would you like to play in the soo? So I'm sure they did their homework on this kid and he's the one who screwed them...not the other way around.
As good a league as the O is, there is still only a handful of quality coaches you should want to play for. Hartsburg is one of them. If my boy is selected by them, he'll report work his butt off and learn all he can. |
