The teams from each league go to the OHF's first and the winner of the OHF's then will go to the Telus Cup.
The Vaughan Kings are the obvious choice from the GTHL.
London Knights from the Alliance, Richmond Hill Stars from the OMHA, Sudbury Wolves from Northern Ontario.
Ottawa Senators are the host for the OHFs and there will be another team from their league at the tournament.
Prediction... Vaughan makes it to the gold medal game. |

Ajax or whitby should be represented by omha as they have come in first and second in the stats. Richmond hill should not be represented. |

I would say marlies over vaughan kings. Marlies come to games not ready to play and still win imagen what they could do if they came prepared to win. Easily teh most talanted team in the gthl you will see through out the playoffs.... |

whitby only finished first because they are the only good team on their side. From the OMHA Ajax Burlington Oakville Richmond Hill and Hamilton are all competitive |

This is a six team tournament:
Host
Pacific
Western
Central
Quebec
Atlantic
Ontario will have two teams entered, the host team and the Central team.
A team from Ontario hasn't won the national championship in over 20 years. Last year's Ontario Rep didn't even win a game. What makes you think this year will be any different? |
|
Anonymous (no login) 99.247.147.91 | Re: Telus Central Representative | February 18 2008, 6:59 PM |
wont be any different because of the disperity in rules pertaining to age - other regions have older teams and 16 years old must play midget whereas Ontario's top 16 year olds have moved on. |

alberta and bc always have good teams becuz ther is oonly like 10 tier 2 teams so alot more quality players in midget than in ontario not to mention ther r far less aaa teams so it makes sence they would have better teams. |

Well that's pretty high thinking on your part, so lets all start bowing and praising the glory of Burlington. Hail Hail !
NOT!!!!!!!!!!!
Are they good? Yep! are the the best? who knows? but I do know that you are a meat head to make such an idiotic comment.
Has Burlington played all the capable teams around? Highly unlikely. Don't forget they are playing in a weak SCTA group of teams, so yea! they can look good, and before you answer, yes they have done well in tournaments, but this is the OMHA's they are now playing for and bigger fish have fried along the way over the years.
So good luck boys! you will need it to win..... |

As for up north, it will be decided between Sault Ste Marie and Sudbury once again. Not sure who will advance but the Sault team has been to the Telus Regionals three years in a row, winning last year and finishing second and third in the other two, in my mind the team to beat is always the defending champion and until someone knocks them out when it counts, they are the team to beat
Sudbury has had the advantage head to head this year with a 4-2-1 record and since Sudbury finally got healthy at the right time due to some unlucky injuries to 3 of their top 4 players, they could be peaking at the right time. On the other hand, Sault just knows how to win when it counts
In respect to matching against teams down south, Sault should have won the Waterloo tournament but what I have read in the Sault Star they were screwed over by some officiating in the final game against Ajax. I know people alwasy complain about officiating so read it for yourself:
http://www.saultstar.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=903133&auth=By+Ben+Leeson
apparently the officials were suspended for their action which were some sort of payback from the Telus Cup last year. Has anyone heard about this down south about the officials getting suspended?
I was hoping to see a match up earlier in the year with Sudbury and Burlington in thh Big Nickel but unfortunately Sudbury played that tournament with 10 minor midgets in the line up due to some big injuries to their top players and lost in the quarter finals without having a chance to see how they would do against Burlington with a full squad
Thats about it up north, but who ever comes out from the GNML will definately be a tough team to play against in the Telus Cup Regional and should not be counted out

The teams from the north have no chance, they played bad teams all year. |

burlington has also been plagued with injuries the whole year. h |

Anonymous (no login) 64.229.231.214 | Re: Telus Central Representative | February 20 2008, 12:27 PM |
All Teams have been plagued with injuries and other issues, so lets throw that one out.
So, lets see who has a chance to compete for the Central spot.
GTHL
Marlies (Favourite not by much)
Vaughan
Red Wings
Overall I have not been impressed by the teams this year. Its a pick'm group and I don't see them being a leader in the central final
OMHA
- SCTA
Burlington ( leader of this pack but beatable)
Oakville
Grey Bruce
- ETA
Ajax Pickering ( Leader but beatable )
Whitby
York Simcoe
Barrie
Richmond Hill
The OMHA is going to be hard to call. The ETA will have 3 out of 5 represented in the finals with Whitby getting the bye as host. They are really ony 4th or 5th best team in the ETA this year, but you never know.
who ever comes out of this group will compete for the Central title.
North
SSM
Sudbury Wolves
Flip a coin on this one either team will compete well at the Central final
Alliance
London ( leader slightly )
Waterloo
Weak overall group and I don't believe either team has a chance in the central finals
ODMHA
hosting Telus cup so they get a bye
Ottawa Senetors ( Leader at this point)
Ottawa 67's outside chance
Should be interesting over the next couple of months to see who can actually win this central group.
Sorry if I might be slighting some teams,by not mentioning them, but this group overall looks to have the best chance to advance.
No predictions on the overall winner!

I have a question im hoping someone could answer for me. The Telus Regional is being held in Ottawa this year as everyone knows, but why is the ODMHA allowed to send three teams to the Regional Tournament. Usually there is two teams represented, the host and the playoff champion (ie Waterloo and London last year)
My question is why does Ottawa get 3 teams allowed to compete when there is only 5 teams in their league. Just doesnt seem fair when you have larger leagues such as the OMHA or the GTHL when it would make more sense if they were allowed two teams
Maybe there is a perfectly legit reason for this, im not sure, and if anyone knows can you please explain this
thank you |

To the best of my understanding there is only 6 teams
2 - ODMHA
1- OMHA
1- GTHL
1- NOHL
1 -Alliance
Where did the Seven come from? |

Folks, the Telus Cup is a CHA Branch Championship - in Ontario, you have three (3) Branches.
1. OHF
2. Hockey Northwest (Thunder Bay area)
3. Ottawa District
All other provinces have just one branch.
In Ontario, since there are three branches, the host Branch rotates every year. One year its the OHF, next HNO, then Ottawa area.
This year, there is no Thunder Bay Kings Midget (HNO) team entering the championships (not sure if they have a team or not).
When Thunder Bay does not send a team, the host Branch gets to fill the void with a 3rd team. The host Branch usually has a spot for the host and the Branch Championship team.
In this case this year, the 3rd ODMHA team replaces the Thunder Bay entry.
Hope this helps - it happens every so often at this age group. |

The Telus Cup is the National Championship and will be held in Arnprior (hosted by the Ottawa Valley Titans). The Regional Championship (not call the Telus Cup) is being held in Ottawa (hosted by the Ottawa Jr. Sens). Ottawa sends two teams every year because they are inside two branches (ODHA and ODMHA. This year, they send three because the Jr. Sens are hosting. It made sense in a 10 team league but now in a 5 team league, you're right, it does not make much sense. The only good thing about this is that the three teams that should participate (Jr. Sens, Titans and probably the Jr. 67's) have all proven to be competitive in the province. As for my opinion on who will win it all. I think it will be decided between the Burlington Eagles and the Toronto Red Wings. But again, all the games should be real close. Good luck to everyone. Check this website to get more information on the tournament: www.rogers2008midgetchampionship.ca.

This years finals will be from the winner of the OMHA and NOHL. The alliance, GTHL and Ottawa are not that strong!
I am going out on the limb and saying it will be Ajax/Pickering Vs Sudbury Jr. Wolves.
As for the GTHL, my bet is on the Marlies to get out of that mess and London out of the Alliance. Ottawa Senetors will be the best out of the ODHA.
It will be an OMHA team winning the regionals............

Interesting...didn't the Toronto Red Wings beat Ajax-Pickering twice in one tournament? The answer is yes. The Red Wings are even stronger now and coach Tony is on a roll. Learned his lesson from last year. |

Anonymous (no login) 76.64.125.200 | Re: Telus Central Representative | March 3 2008, 10:42 PM |
you can throw away all the previous results with tournaments if you think that will decide who will win the Telus Regional. Besides most tournament games are 13-15 min periods with a flood after ever two periods. Tournaments are sometimes difficult to predict out comes at this time of the year because sometimes getting that quick start is all you need in a short game and other factors are invloved (ie, multiple games in one day with sometimes only 3 hours off between games)_
So when it is all said and done and after watching last years tournament in Waterloo, it is a whole different ball game when you play three 20 minute periods with a flood between each period. If you are not use to it, the week long tournament is a grind and I think it showed last year with the Soo struggling through the round robin play but still had a lot left in the tank for the semi-finals and finals.
Does anyone know how each league sets up their regular season and playoffs with regards to time of games, floods, overtime, ie?

we know that is the field, the question asked earlier is why does ottawa send 3 teams when they only have 5 teams in the entire league. That seems to be pretty good odds compared to what the OMHA and other leagues have to go through. |
|
Anonymous (no login) 64.228.69.175 | Re: Telus Central Representative | March 4 2008, 6:09 PM |
Agreed but from the post above, it seems that is the rule, if an alloted team goes out then the host region brings in another team. It just happens this region only has 5 teams. |
|
Anonymous (no login) 76.64.125.200 | Re: Telus Central Representative | March 4 2008, 6:41 PM |
Agreed but Thunder Bay hasn't competed for the Telus Regional for a few years and if that was the case, then shouldnt have the Alliance sent 3 teams last year and NOHA the year before |
|
anonymous (no login) 99.224.47.236 | Rogers | March 5 2008, 6:44 PM |
Looks like Rogers is going to cover this tournament - televising 2 games/day as well as the semi's and medal games. Both the Senators and OV Titans should be able to compete, the third ODMHA may struggle. |
