| Borrowed these stats on the Central Region participants from another thread in this forum:
Ottawa Senators (39-12-6)
Ajax-Pickering Raiders (58-10-6)
Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves (52-8-4)
Ottawa Jr 67's (24-24-7)
London Jr Knights (52-18-3)
Vaughan Kings (41-16-8)
Ottawa Valley Titans (27-21-7)
Now, from the oemhl aaa web site, here are the Ottawa teams reg season standings:
Team GP W L T
Senators 28 23 4 1
67s 28 15 8 5
Titans 28 13 11 4
Wild 28 12 12 4
Cyclones 28 0 28 0
In the oemhl, the five teams play each other 7 times. Note that the bottom team didn't win a game all year (I looked at the scores; they didn't just lose, they got pounded a lot). So, the 3rd & 4th place OV Titans and Wild, who finished within one win of each other, both got 7 "gimmes" from the Cyclones (look at the scores; trust me; definite gimmes). Take those 7 gimmes away from the 67s, and they are a .500 team. And the 67s and Titans are at the big dance this week.
By comparison, the gthl has 12 teams, & each team plays the other 3 times in a 33 game regular season. The gthl had 2 doormats this yr: the nats & dmf, so 6 "easy ones" for the gthl champion vk. However, those two doormats did manage to steal a few points from other teams in the gthl during the year (unlike the cyclones). and, vk are the only team from the gthl in ottawa this week; they had to knock off some decent teams to make it. The 67's and Titans just had to fend off the Cyclones and the 5 -12 - 4 (in games where the Cyclones were not at the other end of the rink) Wild.
memo to ohf, hockey canada, or whoever is in charge; ya really gotta have a look at this whole ottawa always gets 2 teams and 3 when they host thing.

you are right. The G should be able to send as many teams as they want.
The OMHA should have 2, Alliance 2, Ottawa 1, North 2. |

just because the doormats form the GTHL stole games doesnt mean that the teams from ottawa ahve an easier schedule, to me that makes the gthl teams look worse and tells you that the GTHl team play down to their opponent which is not good |

Why would the GTHL be able to send more teams than others?? |

ottawa senators tied sudbury 0-0
Ottawa Jr 67s beat AP 4-0
Ottawa Valley Titans beat Sudbury 5-3
Ottawa Valley Titans beat Vaughan 3-2
Ottawa Valley Titans tied London 4-4
THis mkes it obvious that all 3 team from the oemhl are able to compete against the top team in every other league

ya, they can keep things close, with the help of home town officials. (just watch the replays on TV)
1. When Ottawa Titans beat Sudbury, the second Ottawa goal should have been disallowed. When the Rogers broadcast crew says "well that goal will be dis-allowed", and "there is no way they can call this a goal" you know there is something up.
Continue on with that game, the second Sudbury tied it up in the 2nd, the officiating was not going to give Sudbury a chance to come back as they had to kill of 4 (5-3's) the rest of the game with the eventual game winner coming on another powerplay in the third. I belived Ottawa went 1-15 on the PP that day and its just a matter of time until you finally get one past.
2. When Ottawa Titans tied London, it was a similar scenario but instead, the second London when up 4-1, they were penalized the rest of the game with 5-3 after 5-3, until Ottawa finally came back to tie it with less then a second left.
3. The last thing that was really funny about the officiating was hear a head OHL scout go crazy at the officials for what they were doing, and to summarize what i heard him say in the lobby, "I travel here to scout players and the visiting team cant touch an Ottawa kid without being put into the box" He also went on trying to find out who the offical was because he said "he will never ref an OHL game in his life"
Anyways, this is what many of the teams are going through during this week with regards to the officiating when playing against the local teams and this is what is keeping the Ottawa teams close to thier opponents
But when you really look at it, it is probably like that every year with regard to the host association, so I think you just have to play through it, whether it is fair or unfair.

The referees could care less about who wins or loses. The difference is that in Ottawa, the referees call every little thing, for example the clutching and grabbing that goes on in Toronto is not allowed in Ottawa. Same thing with the hooking calls and the roughing after the whistle calls. In Ottawa, if you touch someone after the whistle, you go to the box. Not the case in Toronto.
The Toronto teams need to adjust to the referees in Ottawa, it's as simple as that. We, from Ottawa, are saying the same thing when we go to Toronto, but it's the opposite, we feel that the refs don't call enough. So we know that we'll have to adjust when we go play there. I'd rather adjust than complain. It's two different ways to see thing, we're far from a conspiracy here.
But being from Ottawa, I can tell you one thing: referees have been very average in the playoffs this year and also at the Provincials because they are being evaluated for the Telus Cup every single game. This is why they follow the rulebook so closely.
By the way, in the Sudbury-Ottawa Valley game, the Wolves had the first four PP's of the game. In the London-67's game today, London had 4 PP's in the first and the 67's only one. Does that mean the referees wanted to help the out of town teams get a lead early in the game? Come on... Let's just play hockey here...
And by the way, good luck to all the teams as no one is eliminated yet with one day of round-robin play remaining... | |
