TIPPING IS PLAIN STUPID!
BOTTOM LINE:
So why do we allow this scam, in the form/system of "tipping," to go on by our participation in this practice?
Easy! Mainly because of the massive social pressure on us to do so.
Also, there is the vanity aspect--we ourselves, love to tip-- "put on the dog," as they say --by impressing ourselves and others in our demonstarted generosity and ability to reward, handsomely, those "underlings" --yes, perceived underlings, if you care to be honest with yourself about it--even though said underlings may easily be pocketing higher wages than you yourself and for less effort.
And, their employers are laughing at all of us while they are quite content with their lower operating costs, as they, and the IRS, manipulate the whole scene to their personal advantage.
What If....
All costs of going out for meals, etc.--both goods and services--were included in the cost as listed--just like most other things. No tips, surcharges, gratuities, no BS!, whatever... WHAT A CONCEPT!!!

This isn't the fifties so why do we still perpetuate the myth that waitreses are " poor struggling women trying to make it in a man's world?" PLEASE! Hpw many companies hire women first? How many are making more than men these days? How many women are choosing to stay home and raise kids? And don't think the girls at Hooters are hired for their work ethic. Yes waiting on people is hard work and it sucks having to deal with their crap but know something? SO FREAKING WHAT. No one told you to do this job and there are plenty of people in shelters right now not getting a salary never mind tips. And don't give me the I have to raise kids crap. Chances are your getting support somewhere, either from welfare or the jackass loser you chose to sleep with and thought you could change. Why should this be societie's problem? I've been a dishwasher and I never saw a tip. Yes waitresses serve you but if your dish ain't washed God knows what your eating off.
Tipping has so gotten out of hand. Go to any service place and not see a jar or some container that doesn't have a sign on it saying " college fund". When you pay through the nose for coffee this is especially insulting.
I would much rather pay a higher price for my meal then have to be crapped on for not tipping.
The owner of that Sopranos place says he was only standing up for his waitresses. So why doesn't he raise their salary if he's so concerned?
After four years of being a faithful customer at a bar I was screamed at in front of a full crowd for not tipping. I've seen this same establishment run tabs.A lot of the waitresses work more than one place and some make a good $200 a night at the high end places.
The only thing that will change this is when people stop going out. If you want to drink buy it and stay home. Learn to cook. If you cant afford to take six kids out learn to budget like the rest of us.
And on a final note, I'm tips and stop certified and never got more than fill in and event work. How many places are going to hire a fat white balding guy no matter how experienced or talented he is?
For the waitresses who are glad to have steady customers and do your job with a smile knowing in this economy you should be greatfulto have it Merry Christmas and I sincerely hope you stay employed. For those of you who think your entitled to tips for doing your job and crap on your customers **** YOUR SPOILED LAZY SKANK BITCH ASSESS!!!!!
