TIPPING IS PLAIN STUPID!
BOTTOM LINE:
So why do we allow this scam, in the form/system of "tipping," to go on by our participation in this practice?
Easy! Mainly because of the massive social pressure on us to do so.
Also, there is the vanity aspect--we ourselves, love to tip-- "put on the dog," as they say --by impressing ourselves and others in our demonstarted generosity and ability to reward, handsomely, those "underlings" --yes, perceived underlings, if you care to be honest with yourself about it--even though said underlings may easily be pocketing higher wages than you yourself and for less effort.
And, their employers are laughing at all of us while they are quite content with their lower operating costs, as they, and the IRS, manipulate the whole scene to their personal advantage.
What If....
All costs of going out for meals, etc.--both goods and services--were included in the cost as listed--just like most other things. No tips, surcharges, gratuities, no BS!, whatever... WHAT A CONCEPT!!!

In response to one point in your grievance against tiping.
I do not tip period.
Reason: Because every single one of those people/waiters, are hipocrates.
Why are they hipocrates: Because every waiter, servant, bell hop, what ever, do not report ALL, ANY, MOST, SUM, of there tips to the IRS.
So why on earth would you up hold, sanction, an institution that allows a select few of individuals the oportunity to pocket money without paying taxes.
I wish my employer would pay me a minimum wage and the rest in cash and call it a TIP.
I am through "TIPING" (To Many Ignorant People Implementing Nonsense Gratuity).
Here is a tip for all the "Ignorant People" with all the jobs leaving this country you should be glad I patronize your establishment. If I like what I see, eat, feel, touch, smell maybe I will be back.
One thing is for sure! It won't be to give you free money.
I hope all you folks that think your being so kind get the #$%^& message.
Stop giving people free money.
