I went to prayer meeting last night and a very good
friend, was told she has terminal cancer.. She's had
cancer 4 times... they got earlier ones... now this
one is aggressive and in lymph nodes... she's 80 now
so she doesn't want to have to go thru chemo yuck.
Didn't hear what name/type... last one was BC, she had
surgery and radiation and feels ok, but they said when
she did ask, they give about 6 mo to 1 year. Chemo
wouldn't help much anyway...

Then, a friend of another lady was told she has 1 week
to live - sent home with hospice...

Yi yi yi... sad.gif

Mike, how did the meeting with your mom-in-law with the
oncologist go? I pray she will have much comfort during
this last part of her life.

Is your wife holding up as well as can be expected? As much
as we know we are all going to die, it doesn't really sink in
at times... at least for me. (but everyone knows I am really weird)

They have a great Oncologist!

June 25 2009, 6:30 PM

This fellow spent 2 and 1/2 hours with them and answered all of their questions and explained everything.

She has been give FOUR different choices for chemo.

One is a new trial drug AMG 706 with the standard 2 drug chemo and another is Avastin plus 2 drug chemo...BUT she will have to pay $2500-3000 PER Avastin tx...needs 6 to 8 atleast.

So, we have some reading and decisions to make.

Thanks

re Great Oncologists

What a blessing, Mike.

I think that really really is important,to have the right doc.
Tell you the straight up answers, when I asked mine how long
I had to live, she said we are drs, not God, we can't tell..
I guess what they tell is only "statistics" but lots of experience
can tell too.. but I have heard of (not known personally) many many
people who got dx of 6months to live and lived 6-10 more years.
Maybe even passing from something else.. When the onc told my mother
in law 3-6 mo.. they were right on, she lasted 3 and that was it.
(Pancreatic is a real bad one...)

Yeah, lots of decisions -wow... my friend is hanging in there, the
cancer she said has spread thru her lymph nodes, right now she is feeling
really good, and doesn't want to take chemo, just wants to be able
to do things as long as she can. What an attitude and inspiration
she is to me and us at our church...

The tabloids show photos of Patrick Swayze, oh he's on his death bed...
but he is a fighter... but just heard that Farah Fawcitt passed, my wife
said it goes in three's... Johnny Carson's sidekick, Ed McMahon, then Farah,
now Michael Jackson..

I kinda laughed after she said that... they aren't even connected, nothing
to do with each other... but in the "media" it came to us in three...

I continue to pray for you and your wife and mom-in-law...

God grant you wisdom and strength

Hi Pat,

I am sorry to read about your friends cancer. That sounds like a tough one, indeed. Know that you will all be in my prayers, too.

Really appreciated Karl. Prayers welcome.
She is facing it... just a wonderful lady.
She wanted to get to 80 and she did that.

Hope this finds you well too... Take care!
