Well here is what I wanted to tell you and not on the nw54 board.

Guess what?  I finally got the slide menu on the test forum site mentioned above,  I made it static because it si just too long to have everything show in a scrolling thngy...

I left it pretty much like you had it except the font size, static and open time...did not want to muck it up...LOL

tell me what you think of the other forum site.

there is a couple of things that I am not thrilled with and one is major with me and that is the old messages...I love NW54 because it archives ALL the messages from birth to grave...and that is very important to me and the gang. All of us are old geezers with no memory...LOL

I have a help top[ic to the new people and have asked this and many more  pertantant questions...they are in the UK and so far it has been 24 horus since i posted and still no reply...sound familuar???

This new one has a ton of neat features and it is about 4.00 less than NW54's new price...but they only give you 120,000 per 6 months...Now at this time that is not a problem for me because I usually never go more than 15.000 a month with all my forums (6).. but if you have a very busy board or boards then it could get hairy...In fact in their help place there are a few concerned about this fact..

They also have a picture and music hosting site for 12.00 per 6 months but since I have my albums on Fotki it makes me no never mind. The swf and music files can always be put on my website file...

Any way I did a few things in Annon mode on the test forum to see if anyone could do all the functions and they can (except edit their own posts) and they do not get the nice features of IM, chat etc that you will see in My Blackkats  posts at the start in the upper right side of the messages.

another thing I do not like about it is that it does not have a seperate body html place for any of the pages. the picture you put on the catigory is the one that will show in the background of that pirticualr forum. there fore it is impossible to use an 800x600 pic for the background because it will not show up right in the small catigory place.  but I am not 100% sure of that...I was liking to take pictures and fog them and make them 800x600 for the backgrounds of NW54. with them fixed. That wasy I could use some of the members pics of their animals.

Well just a few hickups in the other forum  but Like I said the archives are my main point...If they do not keep them then ...... also there is a problem with getting everyone to move again...This would be the 5th time we have moved...I think I would have a revolt on my hands..LOL

On on the test forum (new location) I am still working on it so pop in once in a while and see what is up. will get it all together before I say any thing to any one but you.

as I saw in the source - you used a N54 Realm pic ... they do not allow this. Means: it simply does not show up.
Isn't the font-size for your slider a little too large?
I don't like the Bulletin style. I've played with several of them yet, and although they have lots of features I find it very hard to even post on them.. lol.. I guess it depends on the use of a forum.. but for my community a network forum is the best for 'chatting'.
It is right there in the middle of simple functuallity and useful features
As for the style switch.. yeah.. it really rocks, and I wanted this for a long time. Finally I came across a tutorial....

Oh, I did use the background pic from NW54 and it shows for me...did it not show for you? but I am going to change that anyway because the main page shoul be generic...

I do not think I used anything from NW54 in the new test forum...I try to put all pics onto my album so that they are in one place if I ever have to move a website or forum... But the only problem with that is that Fotki does not let me post the orig which is 800x 600... so I guess I am going to have to just be satisfied with the tiled backgrounds that I can find on the web and customize...LOL

Well, most of my people have asked for alot of the features that the new forum has... I do like NW54 alot and it is easy to edit and all.  Do you think they will ever have the features that Aimoo has? I can wait.. The problem is that I can do alot with NW54 in html but my users do not and won't learn html or use it...so it has to be a built in feature

is there any way, since I knoiw you are writing script for NW54 users, that we could write scripts for some of these features and insert them into our forums? You are so knowledgable...I wish NW54 would let and pay your for writng the program...I bet it would be a hum dinger...

Is ther any way to view a froum source and take a function and incorperate it into another board? Like a "New" thread.. or be able to post a .swf file to play when opened?  Again I really like NW54 and swore to the gang that we would never move...LOL

LOL.Most of the scripts are from Phil (Mr.Pip) http://mrpip.orcon.net.nz/ and I'm happy just understanding them more or less and modify them if needed. I'm too just a learner.
When I started 2001 discovering internet I knew few things and bought books and studied websites and sources. And still I'm learning every day new things.
Now I know a little more than a noob and like to share, that's all ...

Among the blind the one-eyed is king. So I'm just a on-eyed... There are LOTS of things out there which I don't understand yet, like the NEW-thread thingy. It has something to do with php or another server-based language which I do not know (yet). I guess it is a feature on Netw54's ToDo list in a couple of month or so.

SWF files...? See a browser as a translator for web-languages, for swf-files are other programms needed, So the browser is not able to 'play' it, lol .. I hope this is correctly answered.

PayPal? no, I don't have it. And I don't want money. When I'm able to help someone it is another lesson for me, another increase of my skills.

Mother's Day...just another day areound here too.

My son went to his Junior Prom last night and got home about 3 so he "is still asleep"  and I am at my usual place infront of the puter.... as you said just an other day to go through.

Yes I feel just as you do with the helping and learning thing....I have done a couple of store fronts using PayPal shopping cart for a couple of friends of mine and I did not charge because it was something that I had never done and was a great learning thing for me... but if I do any more I will difinatley charge because they are very time consuming and a  pain in the butt to get all the info from the people who want websites done.  But it will not be a great amount...

I just got my first puter and e-mail account in 2000 too and it has been great learning...I am not much of a book reader...more of a show me and I got it person...Have learned alot about things from the view source codes and am still learning. daily.

Did you hear the music I put on the post in NW54 to you in the sliding menu thread?  LOL

finally figured out today how to get music and swf files into p osts in HTML...but with NW54 ya got to (preview, then edit, then post or it will come out as code only and not action...that is something also I learned too. to post code for someone in a p ost  all ya have to do is put it in and hit p ost and it stays (does not turn into action).  Neat huh...I can finally get rid of the <!--> finally...LOl

have both menus on f or them to choose. which one they want. the slider is on all pages...LOL and that is good.

a thought occured to me...you know Mr. P's emoticon program that puts them on the posting box page?

well could we incorperate the slider menu to house the icons and just appear on the posting page? 

put a table into the menu and have the icon pictures in the table???

Then when you go to post the slider will be there with the icons...Hey just a thought...

got a post on NW54...it was just not there and in  view source it is gone...LOL  but still in the manager...what is up with that???

oh BTW I finally was able to get into the two forums that previously I could just get the Header to show....wierd, go figure...

The more I learn the more confused I get and the more questions I have...there are more unexplained bugs than one every could imagin.

Still have to go into my forum and clean out some of the stuf in there that are no longer good...Like a couple of tracker programs that the company is no longer there..

Hey, I did 2 more tables after I posted last night and I found out something...

If I put a <div> at the first and the end then I do not have to add a closure right before the start of the forum table...you know the 3 inserts you have to make the table be where it is suspose to be???!!!  

When I put in the  Notice Board Table I used the code from the table that is the menu...and had to put an extra end table in there...but the last two I did not..

so I am wondering if we put a div in the start of each table (menu and body) if we need the extra table closures...??  something to think about.

first about the tables.

I went to my website on Geocities...http://www.geocities.com/blackkats4

and looked at the source code in a page that had writing in a box with a different color backgrond so that it would been seen and not lost with the page background.

the way it was build by geocities is with a <div> and it had a style and absolute that I took out. and then closed it with the </d> all theri little tables are built in the big board.  Don't ask me why it works but it does as you can see on my forum the two blocks (dark brown) one at top and o ne at the bottom were built that way the Light one I did like you had done and put a 4 closing table at the bottom with the 3 you did.

now for the SWF files....and mid/wav files...input into a post.

You copy all the code from the <object> to the </object> into the post box...then you have to hit PREVIEW then when that page comes up You have to hit EDIT and then you can hit post.

Remember that the URL in the script has to have the swf extention...So when you go to a website that has a flash you have to go to View source and get the URL out of the script, then copy it into the address box in the browser.  If there is no COMPLETE url just the file name c opy that into the addy bar behind the website's main url.

if you have problems let me know. when you p lay a swf extention in the browser it is saved into your Temp Internet folder...go there and find the file and move it into a folder in your MY DOC folder. It is now yours to put anywhere on the web.

 

If you do not do that all that will show in the post is the code/Script.

You have to do the same with the music too.

 I am going to post a swf and mid here with out hitting preview so you can see the code then I will open another thread below and p ost them so they will work

I think you when you are in edit screen you will see a black screen and I think you have to double click it before you hit post. going to try that.
