Hope you are doing fine.

I just e-maild Sebastian and asked about the editing of the Guest Book.

yes it can be done.

Just go into the CGI menu and make the advanced guest book.

then put the links (sing and view) into your hame page.  then click on the view

when it comes up go up to the admin link at the top right and click

when the sign in page comes up put in   ID: test   pasword:  123

when you get into the main page you can go up to the top menus and click on password and make new ID and password.

catch ya around.....got a website to build for someone...theya re going to build me a computer so i better get to it..LOL

.. lol... probably you are a huge amount of his mail traffic.. I too had a look at the cgi-guestbook, but wwasn't too impressed.. I will stay with mine, it is very easy to handle. But good to know there's an option if one day I'll decide to change it.

For now I re-worked the next 60 -75 sites to my account... isn't it amazing how many things collected along the way? When I started my homepage 2001 I didn't know what to put up... lol.

If I find some time (unlikely these days. sigh) I'll check out the forum thingy at HostingInsiders... but I still do not like BB-bords.
Away from this I'll have to try if it isn't possible to replace the smilies in our Netw54 forum. So when you click a smilie it will not be written in the textbox as 'img src ....' but as sign for example ::laugh::, ::cool::, ::smile::.... Not sure if it is makeable or if I CAN do this.. let's see.

Now, tell me.. are you still suffering the absence of you 'offspring' (say so?)

Morning/afternoon...

June 23 2004, 2:28 PM

First off let me ask you how to work the quote thingy?????? Just can't get it to post the quote....I know when you tell me how to do it I will feel s illy that I did not th ink of that...LOL

anyway, I really like the guest book on the site..it has alot neat features that I have never seen in a guest book..it looks almost like a forum...with the same features.

Well, i went to your home page looking for your guest book....LMBO...where is it and what is the german word for it?

Well, I must admit I do e-mail Sebastian maybe too much....but now that I have upgraded my account and have asked all the pertanate questions I can leave the poor man alone...BTW he is starting up a Help forum for the site in a couple of months...Might want to watch out for it...

isn't it amazing how many things collected along the way? When I started my homepage 2001 I didn't know what to put up... lol.
Same here...I started mine in 2001 also with geocities...but you are right...we start out with nothing and end up with a folder full of things...Kind of like when I moved into my house in 1999 i only moved in the bed, book case and couch and the rest is in storage...but thorough collecting things I now have a house full of stuff and the old stuff still in the shed...OY E VAY...need to have a big garage sale....

but as I am doing more webpages and look for pictures I still revert back to alot of the pictures (icons and gifs) that I have used and liked in the past...When I got turned on to GIFs in 2001 I went through alot of sites and downloaded a t on of them that I liked...and booked marked the pages...Funny how as we build pages our likes and dislikes change and the way we do sites is so different than when we started....

but I still do not like BB-bords.

What is wrong with BB boards? is there something I should know?  LOL

Away from this I'll have to try if it isn't possible to replace the smilies in our Netw54 forum. So when you click a smilie it will not be written in the textbox as 'img src ....' but as sign for example ::laugh::, ::cool::, ::smile::.... You know the little box Pip has on his forum?  I like that and I think you would be in good shape to maybe do something like that. So that when you open the window it stays in the posting page...Might be easier to repost the emoticon links into that script than to work with the one you have now...I am thinking of using that for the time being till ya all make a slide menu  LOL.

Ya know the only thing i hate about finding new things for the website andpages is that there are so many pages to have to go into and change....Like counters and things....if you change a counter host then you have to go in and change all the pages....

I am thinking that instead of updating my old pages just to leave them like they are and make the new pages with the new stuff...That way I can mark my knowledge through out the years...and watch the progress as the years and knowledge go by.

OH BTW...I used the site thingy you put the link to...the one that checks your site....

OY E VAY.....I learned alot of things I did not know. but stuffed up my home page for 4 days....I don't always close my font and center tags...especially if I have the same font tag (different color or size) in the next bit of text. what I need to do is start putting the basic page font on and only changing it if really called for.  KISS (keep it simple silly)

am really trying to build the pages easy and simple and doing templates....

check this out....I did a page with 4 tables in it....LOL  http://blackkats4.com/FEM/AMERICANA/FDR's%20Speech%20and%20today's%20censure

you can turn off the music at the bottom of the outside table.

Question?  do you think it is best to put alot of sayings on one page or have a separate page for each saying?  I am undeceided about this.

Oh, yes Tony came back the 17th of June but he has a 5 day Bible camp the 8th of July...Yipee......peace again for a couple of days.... this summer is just going by so fast...I guess I am lucky that Tony is 17 and driving....he goes to church on Sunday and Wed so a couple of hours of peace there...and he sleeps till about noon so my mornings are nice....My afternoons are heck though to make up for all that am quite....

on the post page, above , see "Quote"? (it works not with wysiwyg-editor).
A thingy Mr. Pip has on his scripts page: http://mrpip.orcon.net.nz/nw54/msgformat.html

My guestbook (Gaestebuch) (upper right corner on my navi-menu, second item) http://www.onlinewebservice6.de/gastbuch.php?id=54525

about BB-boards.. they are great... somehow. For example: the coming forum at Sebastian's would be a BB-board, and we then will have different cathegories. Which is very useful for this kind of use.
But if you need just a place where people just chat and talk, you woudn't find any better than Network54. Away from this, I like the abillity to change style, language, look in our different N54 boards, this is a thing which cannot be done with a BB board.

You have in your CGI center (or was it CGI-scripts? not sur) at HostingInsiders a SSI thingy.. umm.. Server-Side-Include.
I've used similiar to insert the right and left Navigations on my homepage.
How? i have a simple html-page with nothing but the navi links on it (here the left menu : http://rattarium.net/Rattarium/rattenspielplatz.html ) and on the index-pagge I've written:

Code:
<!--#include virtual="rattenspielplatz.html" -->
at the place where I want to have them appear. This was new to me, too. But it seems to work.
Counters you say. Avoid Bravenet. Once there were really good.. now they are overloaded with (bad) ads.

oh yes.. the W3 checker.. you are really scared by the first time using it, but the - as you said - you learn a lot about writing correct code. the advantage is clear: if you scripted correct, the site can be seen by many (more) people.

You should follow your own advice (Keep it simple) The best to "feed" your visitors with small morsel. readable text (not dark text on dark background or so) smaller tables with text, so the writing isn't spread out over the whole screen. etc...

Don't slap me when I say: you dont have to use tables there.. for design it is enough to have just the DIV's and their BORDERS - easy to set with CSS-styles, you may learn more about it : http://www.pageresource.com/dhtml/indexcss.htm
(not the best page, alas my favorites are all in German, not really useful for you ) they may be more out there, try Google or so to find them.

some more css tuts:

http://www.richinstyle.com/

Put off your font tags or other design stuf.. just make pure html, and 'make' your page- design via css. If you have to change anything later, you just have to change ONE file. amazing

ok.. bye for now.. have to feed the family.. they are problably lost without someone(me) cooking and serving ...

(it works not with wysiwyg-editor).

Ok i turned off my editor and I still can't get it to work....I paste the things into the box and click ok but it goes into cyber space...????

Oh the box on Pip's forum post page has the edtior in it and it seems (except the quotes) to work with wysiwyg editor (btw who ever came up with that wierd name....LOL)  Again I think that little box of Pip's would work great on your forums....hint hint....  and all you would have to do in input your links...

Love the guest book...it is a nice one...but always nice to know that there is one on the host if needed.  LOL

Don't slap me when I say: you dont have to use tables there. LMBO.

for design it is enough to have just the DIV's and their BORDERS - easy to set with CSS-styles,  I just learn how to do a table and you want me to learn something else....LOL you are soooooo  funny.

you may learn more about it : http://www.pageresource.com/dhtml/indexcss.htm

Thanks for taking the time to find these neat sites....I am reading and learning....LOL   Since I take all the e-mail stuff out of the source and they are all done in Style format this might just be the way to go....Should make it nice as you will only have one file with all the code and then the text page will not be so  big...a good space saver...

Also noticed that if I want a page to have a different style then I have to make a template (style) for that one or group...Not so really differnet that what I am doing. but easier with just having to put in the style link instead of  the whole html.

i did not understand the CGI thingy and how to do that with the menus...Can't I just insert the menus into the style thingy and then they come up on the new pages?

I can see the simplisity of this even now and I think that Geocities might be written in style so that all I will have to do is copy and paste the new style sheet.  alot of work to do as you know too...to get all the old pages up to grade....boy you have opened a can of worms and alot of studing for me....LOL

Put off your font tags or other design stuf.. just make pure html, and 'make' your page- design via css. If you have to change anything later, you just have to change ONE file. amazing

Great IDEA.....

Well I got alot of reading and trying to do....good thing it is raining here and an inside day....LOL  good excuse to work on the puter all day... Thank God my son is old enough to take care of himself and does not rely on me for food (except buying it  lol) and other things.  He is off to school to do some kicking for the football team...Practice...he is going to be the kicker this year... he can kick 35 yd's barfooted on a continuing basis...

Thanks but I owe it all to you....:)

June 26 2004, 3:48 PM

I noticed something too...the style page lets you do many more things with the page like multipule backgrround images....in any place....so if you put your pictures in the style page then it is impossible to bring them up or hot link.  I know my pages are very simple but I think for the funny pages that it might need to be...

again thank you so very much for your invaluable knowledge...

BTW how is your keyboard? did it survive the bath?

Just thought of somethng...and i think you mentioned it some time back

doing a style page and then putting the forum in via an IFRAME....but that is for another day...LOL

Sunday Morning: I can not figure out how you did the menu page...well I know how you did it--as just a web page__but what did you use to get it into the main page.  Can my slide menu do the same?

BTW I was thinking last night and this am about websites...It finally dawned on me that the places that offer templates --- well those templates are just style sheets...LOL  (cept for Geocities of course...LOL  they are a thing on to them selves.. )

You have really opened my eyes and helped me learn and understand webbuilding....will be hard to go back to building webpages the old "I got no idea" way...LMBO   shame on you there goes my non-conformest ways.

Have a great week.

Home page (not done with style  lol)
