As Jim served in C Squadron (myself in B) I did not get to know your grandfather well until we were both members of the Sergeants Mess, in Wuppertal, Germany.
He was awarded the Military Medal - I cannot recall the details, but I believe it was for his recovery efforts of Churchills bogged down near Roncofreddo in northern Italy.
We held a farewell dinner for Jim and others members of 26 Group in the mess on 2nd February, 1946. He, as did the others, signed the back of my copy of the event - as it is really tattered I have reproduced it.
Jim's signature is the tenth down in the left column.
