Snow is just around the corner. I love the winter scenes that unfold throughout the season. Hope you guys like my latest effort...

Winter’s Solitude Upon Me
11-13-03 David A Frazier
A winter’s flake to light upon the bough,
And drowse after such a flight.
And countless more to follow…
And I sit and gaze and wallow…
At such a melancholy sight,
Engaged to watch for now.
Painting virgin landscapes the purest of white,
As though of the master’s stroke.
The merest of white and black…
A myriad of color it does lack…
Yet my imagination it does provoke,
At so simplistic a sight.
I press close to winter’s frosty glass,
To feel chill upon my cheek.
And peer into the snow…
And hours come and go…
And the comfort I do seek,
I find in winter visions come to pass.

Good to see you, Dave! It's already been black and white here for a few weeks, I'm already tired of it. Today is the first day it will be above zero for a while, and it's a nice feeling to take a breath that doesn't freeze your lungs when you let the dog out first thing in the morning...
Your new poem is very good, paints nice wintry visuals, but has quite a complex rhyming scheme. Once again I display my ignorance of the technical aspects of writing to ask you if there is a name for this particular rhyming scheme, or if you simply contrived the lines to rhyme the way they do? Let us know, all right? I like learning new things.
Very good to see you dropping in with new work, Dave! Enjoy what's left of the no-snow days in your neck of the woods!
Thanks for the comments, Alice. Always appreciated...
The style just came to me; I didn't model it after any style I know of. It essentially consists of 3 related sets of couplets (2 lines) arranged into 3 stanzas. I like how they turned out. I find myself experimenting lately with poetic style and substance. Don't know why, maybe God is setting me up to pen something inspiring! Wouldn't that be sweet...
I'm a New England guy for sure. There are many days I sit and stare abscent-mindedly through a frosted pane and watch the snowflakes drifting down, a gentle fire crackling at the hearth, and a chilled glass of White Zinfendel close at hand...
I'd appreciate winter a lot more if I was not living among the mountains - well, in the foothills of the Rockies, but close enough that we get snow here some years from October to May. I was raised in the East, and do love the winters there, they're about three months shorter!
Your poem really is beautiful, Dave, and I hope my appreciation for the work came through along with my impatience {already!} with winter! I need to live in the Bahamas...
I really like this. I was feeling every word. Very nice, I think this might have been the only thing I have had the privlage of reading of yours.
I like it!

"Painting virgin landscapes the purest of snow!" I love it, Dave. I have not attempted nature poetry as yet, and your work is so beautiful, I find it hard to imagine being able to top it. Keep them coming. I am so glad you have been joining us. I enjoy your work.
Suzanne
Your work has always been the purest of poetry and this one simply maintains your very high standards. Simply gentle, portraying the gentleness of a winter.
