Midnight Service
The ancient village church stood proud.
Warm lighting, gave stained glass shading,
To the thick covering of snow,
That covered the church yard,
Like a freshly laundered duvet.
Underneath which,
So many generations slept peacefully.
The beam of the moon was turned on full,
Stars boasted a polished newness,
The sky was night-time white,
The night was crisp and hushed.
Stone Angels with bowed heads,
Frosty tears glistening,
As if listening to the stillness.
Then Heavenly notes seeped
Through the very fabric of the church,
As a solo boy soprano
Sang ‘Away in a Manger.’
I stood under the arched gateway,
Wiped away a solitary tear,
Memories of yesteryear.
The choirboy ended
His beautiful rendition,
To another moment of calm.
The rumble of the bass organ pipes
Was felt first,
Rather than heard …………
A sleepless bird took to the sky,
In anticipation,
As the organ, the congregation
And the choir
Burst forth in unison to,
‘Once in Royal David’s City.’
The bells tolled in Christmas Day.
One could only pray
For such peace throughout the world.
One could only stand tall,
Yet feel so humble.
One could only dream
Of lost and distant loves,
Yet feel so close
To an all powerful love.
One that is always willing to guide,
And never hides.
Such a welcoming openness,
Such a feeling of newness,
Thank you Mary’s Boychild.

There is nothing stronger ,sweeter , more awesome than the all powerful love that has been brought to the world by the King of All Kings.
Everyday I am thankful for what He's done in my life and I hope Heaven is filled with the beautiful souls of our departed loved ones we have known in each of our lives and that they sing and rejoice with Him in the brilliant mansions beyond the shimmering Gates Of Heaven.
Faith ...May we all walk and keep the faith !!
Hold The Vision fill your hearts with love...
make room for love only .
I hope everyone on Wondersmith is blessed with a
safe , healthy and happy holiday .
Very Nicely Done Rusty.

Rusty,
I could feel this poem. I could hear the choirboy singing. I could feel the Church. I could see each and every detail of this poem. Brilliant imagery! I only hope that one day I may be able to story tell through my poetry as well as you do. You give me a wonderful inspiration and a goal to reach for. Thank you.
