Champagne Laughter

A bright day with a hint of burning pine spicing the air,
Subtle, sweet, romantic. Warm enough to dress light.
Kitchen noises drifted from the cabin. I was fully aware
Of my good fortune, togetherness and harmony, despite
Many long years of wondering if, wondering when.
She carried a picnic, I held a hamper of plates, glasses and wine.
Prettiness sublime, parceled happiness, we kissed and then
Walked hand in hand to the lake. My future hers and hers mine.
Honking geese skimmed the water’s surface. I mimicked the din,
Ran in circles flapping my arms, she laughed like champagne,
Helplessly rolling onto her back – such beauty of fair skin,
I fell to my knees and to decrees of love we kissed again and again.
She told me stories, I briefly dwelt behind her eyes,
I watched her lips, took sips of wine, our very souls intertwined.
She held me close with words that flew like birds in clear skies.
Love, deeper than any lake, enveloped us, clearly designed
At the beginning of time for the two of us. Smoked cheese
With rye bread, peaches, (oooh! that juice), red wine,
(shaken not stirred), and around us, a gang of giant trees
Silently observed a unison, profound, simple, divine.
The cooling lake pulled the Sun slowly down the sky,
The Sun grew and blushed. We lay with sighs, content.
Poetry was acted out, not written, no one need ask why.
More powerful than mere description, it was real, it was meant.

Oh, the pictures you paint!!

February 8 2004, 6:01 PM

You've done it again, my dear sir! With a few words I'm right in the scene, carried through to the conclusion as if I was right there. You have an outstandingly marvellous talent, Rusty!

Thanks!! If my evening was looking a bit dull at first, you've just livened it up considerably with this poem - I'm grinning and energized now, instead of tired and bored from baking and cooking and cleaning and doing dishes and all the other Mom stuff.

Too bad you can't taste this corn bread I just baked. Yummy, and leaves the fingertips all buttery {I'm trying to keep the keyboard clean, but I think I'll have to wipe it down shortly}. Too bad I don't know a symbol to represent a kitty licking it's paws, I'd use it.

You never fail to astound me with the scope of your imagination, Rusty, and this new poem is a good illustration of that once again!

Love and Hugs,

Alice

Champagne Laughter

Wonderful poem Rusty. I wish we could freeze these kind of moments - when two souls come together in love and harmony and the world becomes a place of beauty and wonder!
Well done!
Pam
