And I Know
If a child looks up and sees a hundred stars
An adult will see none.
If a child sees an Angel at the bottom of the bed,
When Mum walks in, too late it’s gone. And I know.
If a child kneels down and says a prayer
Then that prayer will come true.
But a grown up stands and prays for things,
That God will not always pursue. And I know.
If a child is sad then a child will cry,
If happy a child will grin.
If a big person’s sad they’ll go moody,
When happy they’ll drink and crazily spin. And I know.
If a child is hungry they say so
With noises, words and screams.
When tall one’s are not happy with a sandwich,
They’ll talk of a banquet and dream. And I know.
When a child says ‘Goodnight, Mum, Dad’,
Mum, Dad reply ‘Goodnight.’
The child rides the stairs with heavy heart
Mum and Dad relax, all’s alright. And I know.
If I tell you I’m a child still, age of eight,
With younger brothers and sisters, in a room to the side.
Most days I’m their Mother ……….. and most nights.
And I carry my duties with pride. And I know.

Rusty, I don't know how many ways there are to tell you that you have a truly awesome talent! You are by far our most prolific and most versatile poet, not that I like to compare our work to each other's, but I think everyone else would agree with me...
We have to do something about sharing your huge amount of quality work with the rest of the world!!!
Hello Rusty,
I totally agree with Alice. You do have a talent for whatever you chose to write. You set a wonderful example and goal for the rest of us. I could picture vividly in my mind a small child climbing the stairs at bedtime. Their innocence never ceases to amaze me as does your work. Thank you.
