This poem was inspired by the Bette Midler song - Wind beneath My Wings.
I Was The Wind Beneath Your Wings
Did you ever reallly know
Who I truly was to be?
The one who gave you strength
From the day you adopted me
I gave direction to your life
Was an answer to your prayers
And made us all a family
Just like your friends had theirs
I felt I was the parent
My job, to help you grow
I missed out on my childhood
Though you didn't seem to know
My needs always came second
Your need always came first
I hid inside your shadow
At times I felt so cursed
I rarely heard a "Thank You"
But I always did my best
To please and make you proud
Never daring to be a pest
Did you know you were my heroes?
The ones I looked up to
But you kept ALL of the praise
And dreams for only you
It took all of my power and faith
To get me through the years
As you took all of my love
But refused my fears and tears
Since you both have gone to Heaven
Now that my job is done
I can let my soul take wing
Find my own place in the sun
Soaring High
Pam
