My Teacher

I see him nearly every night,
my brother, teacher, humble guide,
the man who led me to the Light
wherein I’ll evermore reside.

The good in him was rarely seen--
he’d be as bad as any can--
until around the age nineteen
when he became a pious man.

A year or two on down the line
he passed his wisdoms unto me.
He taught me of a Life, Divine,
and showed me things no eyes could see.

For hours we would sit and talk
of what we read upon the Sword
and how we hoped that we might walk
eternally beside the Lord.

But there was something haunting him
forever, since he was a child:
the screaming and the voices, grim,
that sought to drive his mind so wild.

He feared what he just might become--
an enemy to all he’d learned--
and thus, to see he’d not succumb,
away from everyone he turned.

Upon the twenty-seventh year
since his conception into life
he laid two thousand miles from here
at last unshackled from his strife.

I know that I will live with this
as long as I can still hold breath,
but though it hurts to reminisce,
his life means more than does his death.

I saw the last name... and not the first .

Please accept my humble apology and thank you for showing such love and respect for him .That is the type of love that I know lives on in your heart forever and in your writing YOU will help others to learn of it in your authentic poetic style.

Respectfully,

Julie

I'm sorry, Jim

Jim, I didn't know you lost your brother - I'm so very sorry you lost him when you're both so young. But you're right, the memories you cherish of his life are so much more valuable than the regrets over his death.

Totally beautiful poem, my friend.

Love and Big Hugs,

Alice
