So this is Summer

So this is Summer

Peggy swayed through the rustic arch
With a tray full of assorted drinks,
Disturbing a family of butterflies.
Her smiling eyes outshone adjacent blooms.
Janice, her younger sister, sang ‘Wonderful World’,
As she handed out wedges of various fruit pies.

So this is Summer …………..

Alan, played quiet accompaniement on guitar,
He sat in the shade of a glorious cherry tree.
A drink and pies were placed by his side.
He winked at his sisters – laughter like wind chimes.
Two young boys studiously played chess,
As two ducks flew overhead, eventually their quacking died.

So this is Summer ………………

There were other people, colourfully, casually dressed,
Neighbours, friends, maybe other family and there was me.
I was a stranger, yet I belonged, we lived this day as one.
Peggy sat beside me on the bench with buoyant sighs,
Now Alan was singing ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’,
Closely we stared, gaped, ogled, then laughed, as the day carried us on.

So this is Summer …………..

The hum of bees, clinks of glass, tender laughter,
The aroma of more home cooking, light wine and the day’s haze,
And then there was Peggy – a vision as fresh
As the daisies that sparkled like strewn gems in the grass.
Whispered words floated like feathers upon her breath.
So this is Summer and so this is Peggy, in the flesh.

So this is Summer ………………..

Evening walked in unnoticed, a familiar Summer friend.
Citronella candles steered away the moths.
I read aloud verse and prose to the background of Alan’s guitar,
Some folks listened, some folks danced softly,
Peggy had her arm around me, her head nestled on my shoulder.
This day was a kiss of an Angel – someone left Heaven’s door ajar.

So this is Summer ………………………

Thanks, Rusty!

What a lovely stroll through a summer day, Rusty! Especially nice when it's cold and rainy here still, going down to four degrees tonight.

Right now the radio station I listen to is doing a poll about whether we've turned our furnaces on yet - I refuse! It's August! But I actually do have a little heater on here in my room. Incredible, eh? Only in Calgary!

I just love your pictures in words, Rusty. This one is a full motion picture - thanks!

Love and Blessings,

Alice
