Can you taste the rotten fruit
of this, a tree that worked and toiled,
and yet the seeds of its tribute
had dangled from its branch and spoiled?

Who should rightly take the blame
for such a wasting of this food,
that one great tree from which it came
or those by whom it had been viewed

yet still who failed to seek it out,
be it because of fear, disgust,
or just whatever source of doubt
smote all their hearts with such distrust?

Better yet, I should inquire,
how can this fruit be now fulfilled,
fall to the ground and just expire
so that its seeds might yet be spilled?

It might as well have never grown
if merely to decay and waste
in this, the only place it’s known
with no one who would have a taste.

Well done, Jim!

Hi Jim,

This may be a tiny bit depressing, but very well written! And even though the fruit of one season may be be wasted, other seasons roll around and often yield better results.

How have things been going in your world? Summer's end is often a sad sort of time - this poem reflects that mood extremely well.

Thanks for coming here to share, Jim! Good to see you.

Love and Blessings,

Alice

Hello Jim,
Very well done! I interpreted the message behind your work as to how mankind has been given plenty for all, but yet we have foolishly wasted it. That my friend is, indeed, a shame on all us. When will we ever learn? I'm sure that's not in the cards in any near future, but maybe with voices like your's, there is hope.
Keep up the good work. You have a great deal to say.
Suzanne
