A wisp of unspoken thoughts
Swirled into the breaking dawn.
As she lay sleeping,
I gathered the corn.

Beyond the noise of the combine
Dreams welled,
Throughout dry dusty air,
Hopes swelled.

Patsy the dog danced the path
Of the new born Sun
And the combine and me
As a new day begun.

And the Earth was still
As she lay sleeping.
As the harvest was gathered
And the sunlight was creeping.

She was with child.
I turned the monster machine,
Patsy barked, her nose raked the stubble.
I loved God, life, her and all in between.

Within this golden gathering,
Within this fair-haired day,
I loved my love and carried child
And all that I surveyed.

Dear Rusty:
As I sit here at my desk, I am able to look out my patio doors where you can see nothing but corn and mountains.
Your poem was so real to me. I could see the farmer, the farm house and even the wife as she lay sleeping. You took me away, but yet I stayed right here at home. I enjoyed it.
Very, very well done.
Suzanne
