I have no idea when I wrote this one.. a few years ago I suppose... but it was titled..

"A Day of Rest"

Scintillating sunlight
rolls across a barren field,
and what once seemed like my last night
does, a final morning, yield.

It lightens up the landscape
as it climbs over the hills,
for, though the night I can’t escape,
the day can come upon me still,

and, while my nerves are broken
and my muscles move no more,
my words will not go unspoken
as they seep from every pore.

I could surely be severed
from this life’s dangling cord,
but I’d not have endeavored
to the bottom of my hoard,

and either it will decay
with my bodily remains,
or it will be carried away
like the blood from my veins

to be spilled into the air
of a cold, unloving world
that might, for a moment, care
when my struggle is unfurled.

Somehow, this is actually a love poem... I stumbled across my ooold old love poems and ... I really love them! For some reason, they are so much better (the oooold ones) than the ones I've written in the past couple of years. Here, I'll post another one too.

Your 'old' work is Awesome!!

November 18 2004, 10:24 AM

Hi Jim,

Always great to see you!

You know how much I love your early work, you always blew my mind by the depth of your work in one so young. I thought you must at least be in your thirties when I started reading your work, I was shocked to hear you were still in your teens at that time!

Hard to believe five years have passed since the early days of Stu Engle's Writer's Voice, eh? How time flies when you're always working!

Love and Hugs,

Alice

Thank you very much, Alice... I think it was a matter of inspiration.. I look back to the first things I wrote at age... 15 and 16.. and I really find them more enjoyable than most anything I've written since then...
Hehehehe... but to me it seems like Eons ago.. I'm sure for a busy bee like yourself, time has flown.. but for a lazy fool like me? It's draaaaaaagged on. ; )
