False Hope
He was suited, young, dapper and sleek,
The woman in the chair
Languidly brushing sable hair,
Had a Mona Lisa smile and she didn’t speak.
From the terrace she viewed an untamed sea,
Wild white stallion waves
Smashed into rocks, flooded caves.
Dark eyes squinted, into autumnal, expansive glee.
Yachts fought anchors, they won, and waved their sails.
She turned in her chair,
The breeze folded her velvet hair,
He took in this innocent grace and inhaled.
She’d had an affair.
Background Ray Charles sung ‘Take these Chains’
Yet there was overwhelming love in his veins
He was hurt - and so she flirted, he didn’t care!
He sat on the wall, back to the sea,
Knees touched, he offered her a martini,
Gloating and drooling at her scanty bikini.
She accepted with giggles and glorious glee.
Ray Charles wound up, now ‘Love is in the Air’.
His hand slid to hers but hers flew
To her hair – flipped it back for a sneak view –
Of a lover she knew she could share.
He’d been working as a croupier,
Known her a week and in love for a week.
Had so many women, yet she was unique,
In a way he couldn’t possibly convey.
She was trouble, yet she drew out a chair,
He sat there, arm around her shoulders
Feeling gallant and so much bolder.
Could this be more than a passing affair?
She pressed his hand to her cheek
Spun his loving prowess into a golden mesh.
Trapped within burning flesh
He was in a fog, mind agog, difficult to speak.
She kissed his cheek, kissed his nose.
He loosened his tie,
Sipped his drink and wondered why ….
He sensed the need to propose.
His love for her he couldn’t deny,
But it was then that her nails raked his face ……..
If he could have stood, he would have stepped back apace.
She whispered, it was good, hoped he understood, stood and smiled goodbye.

Interesting little tale this time, my dear Sir Rusty! Wherever do you find all your characters? As always, you drew me right in from the first line to the interesting ending.
You certainly have a way with words, Rusty. Thanks for sharing this with us!
