Last Night’s Affair
On this occasion
The street was threatening,
Need no persuasion
To stop,
And light a cigarette
And look behind me,
Getting extra wet
When it’s raining.
What makes the sound of feet?
No one shares the street.
Can’t see a cop
When I stop.
Fast walking,
Coward I know.
Is it my footsteps
Insistent echo?
A loud racking cough
Falls flat in the air,
Putting me off.
Break into a run,
Head for the light.
Stop, and can’t even see
Infinite night.
Eyes see me, I sense.
Throw cigarette
Begin to sweat.
Want to laugh
But think about writing
My epitaph.
See kids with smiles
Holding harassed Mothers
Who push prams.
See suits and overalls
Wanting to shirk
But forced to work.
Windows opening,
Doors shutting,
Street girl modelling,
Street girl slutting.
Grimy cars,
Driverless carriages
Taxis swallow bodies
To dump them elsewhere.
I rise from my overnight
Watery grave,
Only too aware
Of my despair,
And the deeply hidden memories
Of last night’s affair.
******************* NOW FOR SOMETHING QUITE DIFFERENT **************
To You Alone
Hey – give the reader and me
Some space, for a twosome.
Okay – that’s nice - just us two.
Now – take my emotions
And juice ‘em!!
That’s right!! Now I’ll blend yours.
Put both in the shaker and shake.
Pour two shots of purple blue
Over black ice.
Here’s to us and here’s yours – take.
Laid back eh? Feel me feel you.
I cry your laugh, you smile my cry.
You see my dreams - I dream you.
We hug for the ride
And rock sway while we fly.
No such things as lies now,
While I feel you surf my tide.
Your eyes reflect both you and me
And my eyes are windows.
We cannot hide.
Another shot – let’s go deeper.
Human race – rush of blood.
Wow!! – Feel that surge of life?
We speak in silence
Screaming – this is good!
Videorama with Dolby Surround
Fast forward – births to nows.
We swim away
To our own cranial caves
Wiping our sweaty brows.
