Wonderful Tonight

Wondering at the depth of a brilliant sunset,
Held in the mortal frame that defines these hands,
Articulating itself ‘gainst the weight of the night,
Teetering in an ancient clash; descending once more into sand,
Candlewick faith, flickering bounds in time and space,
Ashore, on tides of a midnight sea,
Notched with shafts of hoary light,
Infused with shoots of the silvered tree,
Serendipitous breaths of inspiration, caught: frozen hope upon the leaf,
Altruist of the unseen form: a silhouette in their relief,
Yawning open: gates of sky,
Binding essence ling’ring, in the heart and through the air,
Unequivocal its nature,
To blissfully surrender, and unopposed declare,
I know no more than wistful visions,
Loosed, hands in yours, musing with pencil strokes against the sky,
Offering up my barest scripture, in exchange for moments, caught in—
Veneration; diffusion’s trails fading between this velvet sheet and joyfully hapless eye,
Enrobed: wholly rapt within this cool night’s breath,
Yielding hues of emotion; shivering in eminence along the soul,
Ordaining words in the name of love,
Urging—bound to the world, to contract with your sighs—a gently cadenced stroll,
Nodding off into a realm, nettled with the freedom from doubt, extension of pensive reflection,
Albeit, close as I dare to tread, for fear of the adamant lines of perfection,
Drawing out bars of resonate verse,
In climbing nexus, composing a climax beyond my sight,
A vantage reserved for soul not my own:
… And yes, you look wonderful tonight.
