Porch Light
Walked you home tonight
And now we stand
Under the porch light.
Hands loosely held,
Eyes locked, glazed.
Goofy smiles,
Reading minds for miles and miles.
Downers erased.
A lover’s trance ………….
And between us,
Moths dance.
Two boys pass by
Shouting innuendo
Into the Summer night.
They disappear,
Blackness sucks them through
To their shallow world,
Whilst the porch light
Embraces us,
Outside of time.
Starlit savannahs
Bordered by moonlit drifting mountains,
So high
Night sky
Eggshell thin,
Between us and a trillion worlds.
As we stood
Below the porchlight
We were in our world,
Me and you,
Population – two.
Silently between the stars
Flashing red, green and white,
An aeroplane rushes humanity,
A large village,
A small town,
To destination unknown.
But no one looks down
And sees the porch light
As they feed, laugh, cry
And hurtle through the night.
Your dress feathers softly
In stealthy breeze,
Your lips are moist with goofy grin.
Your eyes sparkle.
In the light of the porch
You are radiant, warm.
You are a torch
Shining deep within my soul.
And tonight
Under the porch light
We are silent
And I give myself to you.<br />
