Is There Symbolism In Life?

This is a question my seven-year-old son asked me this day as we walked through a nature preserve .How would I answer this and what exactly prompted him to ask were my pondering thoughts. Maybe he caught on to the subject of symbolism that I would point out to his sister while watching a certain movie, or perhaps he heard us talking when we were discussing how its used quite often in poetry and in books.

While I was standing there thinking, he offered his next question most likely in an attempt to help me out with his first question. I thank God for my thoughtful and patient children while reflecting back on this moment. He then asked, “ What it is the wind …does it stand for something?” Quick was my answer to tell him, “ When you feel the wind, it is the angels nearby. When it is very windy around you, you can guess that there are many enjoying the day with you and near you.” He looked up, all around and then smiled at me. It is nice to be able to see the wonderment in children’s thoughts at such a young age.

My ten-year-old daughter just wrote a poem yesterday, and in it described the color red to be…such as a rose like the blood of Jesus our Saviour, who rose. When I read her words, I knew that whenever I would now have the chance to see any red roses, I would instead see my Saviour, more precious than any rose and the most beautiful.

Is there symbolism in life?

It seems my children were the teachers this day, and I, the thankful student. They shared innocent curiosity as well as their faith. I am overjoyed to see where their thoughts are these days in their own lives, in a world that does its best to distract us from capturing such wonderful thoughts.

A day filled with blessings and lessons learned all thanks to my gracious God. May our Lord continue to bless and guide them in His ways is my daily prayer for them. All children truly are heaven sent and that is what the Lord has taught me.

Abundant Blessings To All Visiting Here ,

Obviously your children are an inspiration to you - and you to them, and that is good.

Always upbeat and positive, and that is also good.

Sometimes I wonder where my mixed bag of words come from - and sometimes, I think, maybe from your work. Maybe occasionally playing D****'s advocate or maybe looking for answers.

Personally I don't want to be analysed and I think to analyse poetry ruins it. It spoilt it for me at school. I enjoyed poetry until teachers told me what it really meant .......... with hindsight, they were wrong. My interpretation was right - for me.

Sorry Julie, I am rambling.
