Joe and Elouisa

The Moon hangs still
Chasing thro’ the sky
Sweeping distant hills
As clouds race by.

Joe hangs his hat
On the stand in the hall,
Trips over the cat,
Hears Elouisa call …………

- Is that you Joe? –
He sinks silently to the floor.
He knows he’s dying,
Been drinking, looks longingly at the door.

Elouisa’s not too well,
Yesterday she was a dancer.
Now life’s gone to hell
She lies in bed with cancer.

Joe played the sax
As Elouise strutted her stuff.
The crowd chatted, showed their backs,
But Joe and Elouisa couldn’t get enough.

And the cat shot up the stairs
To the side of Elouisa’s bed.
Elouisa said her prayers,
The cat purred, then Elouisa was dead.

Joe heard a sax play
From the dark side of the Moon.
Joe heard himself say
- That’s my tune – see you soon Elouisa – see you soon.

And as the Moon hangs still
Chasing thro’ the sky,
Sweeping distant hills
As clouds race by.
