~You have entered "The Entertainment Alliance Book Club", where we are currently reading our eigth book, "Every Which Way but Dead", by: Kim Harrison and our unofficial book "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling~
Okay, in this thread we can talk about books we have read and liked, books we want to read, and ect. Basically a vote on what to read next type of thing.
Well, first off, I personally don't know about the rest of you guys, but I hate reading more then one book at once because you get them mixed up sometimes and it takes forever to finish. Well, I am currently at about page 100 or so in the book Interview With The Vampire by Anne Rice, so I vote we start with that. Now a good number of the members came from Dakota's Harry Potter Message Board so I know that a lot of you agreed to the book already. Also, Interview is the first book in a series of 9 books (with a 10th book to be releised in October). Now once we read this I think we should vote on if we should bother with the rest of the series.
I also have seen the movie Underworld, it was really awesome. Looking for Interview With The Vampire at the book store I found a book that was written based on the screen play. After I finish this I was originally planning on reading it. Any votes on reading that book eventually?
Another two books I have read in the past and wouldn't mind reading again are 'The Giver' and 'The Outsiders'.

Yeah, the outsiders is a great book, but since I've already read that one my vote goes to interview with a vampire. The Giver would be ok too, alhough for some strange reason I just know I'll hate it...?

The giver would be excellent! I haven't read it in three years, but I remember that I loved it. I didn't like The Outsiders very much when I read it. Can I make a suggestion? "The Secret Adversary" by Agatha Christie. It takes place in London after WWI. It's about two kids (20 year old kids) who are low on cash, and so they talk about becoming adventurers to make money. They are overheard and they get caught up in solving a big government conpriracy thing with secret alliances and kidnapping and murder. It's a very good book and it's not long at all. It may not do well to discuss it in chapters because it's the kind of book you might stay up late reading, and you'd rather keep on reading it than come on the board and talk about it if you know what I mean. I might read Interveiws with Vampires if that's what we decide on, but I probably won't read the entire series. Also- if anyone is interested in reading and discussing a play by Shakespeare, that would be a good idea too.

I wouldn't mind reading the Outsiders considering it's my favorite book lol. Never read the Giver but I would. Who's the author? I'll look for it in my school library(though my school library sucks and bans nearly every book, including a number of Stephen King ones).

Well I'll personally pass on Sheiksbere (sp?) lol. Well if enough people vote on a book and seem interested in it we can read it, but there is no guideline in this club that you personall have to read every book we all vote on, so like if one person wanted to skip out on a book because they didn't like it, they wouldn't be kicked out or anything. So if enough people want to read a book, we will say Sheiksbere for example, and a few people didn't want to read it, I'll say me for example, that would give me time to read a book I wanted to that maybe we out voted. Like if we decide not to read the whole series 'The Vampire Chronicles', that would give me a chance to read on the next book so that is perfectly okay and all. I mean personally I wanted to read the series as a whole to begin with, so I bought a book with the first three books in one big book for about $20 in paper back at a book store. It has 'Interview With The Vampire', 'The Vampire Lastat', and 'The Queen Of The Damned' in it. So like I said, we can pick any book and vote on it, if a majority of people say yes then we can read it, but if someone chooses not to read it it will still be okay. So don't think you have to go out and buy a book you don't even want tor ead in the first place if you are not in to it.

You must have posted while I was still typing my last responce because it wasn't there while I was reading the thread lol. The author of The Giver is...
Okay I just stopped typing and went looking for the book. My first semester in college the book was the first book in our reading assignment so I bought it. Well it isn't with the other two books the professor had us get. Then I dropped out of school half way threw the first semester. I bet the book is still in my back pack, which has been sitting in my trunk of my car for about going on a year now collecting dust. I'll have to look for it next time I go to my car today.
I also know I have 'The Outsiders' somewhere, but can't find that either. The author to that book was S.E. Hinton I think. I'm not positive if I spelled the last name correctly though.
The other two books I bought for my class were 'Night' by Ellie Wiesel & 'Farewell To Manzanar' by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston & James D. Houston. I haven't read either of those two books, but at least I know where those ones are lol!

I love Agatha Christie, I suggest "Ten Little Indians" or "And Then There Were None." They're the same books with different titles. Very cheap, maybe seven bucks, max. It's about a group who goes to an island and they're invited by a strange person they don't know. They get killed one by one. It's great.
Her books are older and very inexpensive. They're all murders set in 1920-1940. Very cool.

Maybe we are thinking of different rhymes because my friend Karen went threw a child care program for like 3 weeks and the only thing she remembers is a nursery rhyme about 10 little indian boys jumping on a bed...

I don't mind reading Interview With a Vampire since I never have, but I would rather not read an entire series for book discussion.

Ten little monkeys? Yeah, umm, actually that sounds more like what she said. But I know she said something about 10 indians also, can't remember what though lol.
Yeah, I didn't think that people would really want to read a whole series, but I know I am going to read the series lol.

YES! I loved "And then There Were None"! I own that one too. That would be excellent! Ummm...Chris, the way you spelled SHAKESPEARE was absolutely scandalous. I own "Farwell to Manzanar", "Night", "The Outsiders", "And then there were None", "The Secret Adversary", and everything Shakespeare has ever written. I read "The Outsiders" for English class and "Farewell to Manzanar" for History in eigth grade. I read "Night" last year for Literature, and I wouldn't want to read it again. I definately agree to "And Then There Were None"/"Ten Little Indians".

Well, time for the official vote I suppose. Everybody okay with Interview With The Vampire first? I don't care what order we read what, but I vote this first only because I already started it.
Edit note: I think you wanted all your sigs out, Chris. Just helping out

Oh... I would have gone with an Agatha Christie one or Mary Higgins Clark (those are my fave books)...
I can go look in a library for Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice, but I'm not sure I'll find it... if I dont I'll just pass to the next book we'll read, all right?

Hello,
Thanks to the other half my brain, Sandy, I'm now registered. I'll be making a trip to the library very soon to pick up Interview. I guess it's cheating that I've seen the movie enough times to be embarassed! My mother has read the series and loves it. I have a thing about reading entire series of stories once I like them (ask me about Dune!) but I can understand not imposing a whole series on a group of people for a book club. I look forward to this! Thanks "Pinky"!

Interview is okey-dokey with me. Chris, you have read the first 100 pages, you said, so shall we all check in once we reach that point?
Of course, everyone can read ahead, I guess, but we could start our discussion at that point if it seems like a good spot to you, Chris.
Yay, Brain! Glad you made it.

I'm personaly going to read the whole series. I just figured once we finish this book we can take a vote on if we, as a group, like the book enough to read the whole series.

Like I said, I'm not too interested in the Ann Rice book, but I'll see if my schoool library has it tomorrow. I just moved to a new town, so I don't have a library card yet (I don't even know where the library is. lol.). I'll check it out and give it a try. I don't have a lot of free time during the week, but my weekends are pretty much my own, and I'm not a super-slow reader, so don't worry about that. If it makes any difference, I think our next book should be Agatha Christie or Mary Higgings Clark.

I probobly won't be able to go to a library/book store for a while, so i'm going to see if I can downlad the book from Kazaa/I-mesh. If that is the first book, are you going to have the whole series as the first book(s)?

Well, I figured after we read the first book, we can later decide if we want to read the series. And if we do, I suspect we will also break it up and not the whole thing at once. But, that is if we all want to do it. Personally even if the rest of the group votes against it, I'm still ging to do it on my own.

Um, just wanted to let you know, Chris, that I couldnt find Interview with a Vampire, and I probably wont be able to get the rest of the series either. As a next book, could we read a classic? It doesnt have to be one of these huge books like, I dunno, shakespeare, since Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde would work too. See, my Italian teacher said I'm supposed to read a classic book a month, and I was wondering if, at least once, we could all read that so I wont have to read two books at once (I will if we decide on another book, though)
Actually, I still have to pick a classic book. Anyone read any and could give me some advice for a good one?

Amazon.com has them, and if you actually ask the book store, if it is something they can carry, then they can usually order it for you at no charge since they can carry it. If they can order it but they don't, or won't carry it, they may actually charge you extra.
Hmm, I liked The Three Musketeers.

HPfan, if you haven't already read Pride and Prejudice(written by Jane Austen), you might like that. There are lots of others. Tom Sawyer or Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson
And of course, a ton that I, pesonally, didn't like but lots of others did...
Crime and Punishment by Dosteyevski (whoa, spelling?)
Heart of Darkness (rats, big memory breakdown, can't recall the author)
- just to name a few.
