Well- Part 1 was interesting...

I think that Louis is the better vampire when compared to Lestat. He would teach any person he made into a vampire the beauty of it. Like he did to Claudia.

This shocked me. It showed how desperate Lestat was to keep Louis around with him. I didn't even think that Lestat would stoop down to that level. Now, the question is: Why?

Louis said that Lestat needed the company and he really couldn't handle all of that money. I think that a deeper reason will be revealed later on. I couldn't begin to guess why Lestat would want to keep him around. They butt heads all the time and despise eachother, yet Lestat needs him around.

Claudia seems to be holding Louis stable. I thought she might have been restraining him from doing something he might regret. Instead, she killed Lestat. Or tried.

I couldn't believe how she attempted to kill Lestat. I wondered what she put in the boy's blood. Because I seriously doubt Lestat would tell Claudia or Louis how to kill a vampire while he knows that they're plotting against him...


That's my two cents. That's what I was thinking about while reading. That's what I think's important. Add anything or comment on my comments.

If you have read my other comments, you will think I am a broken record. I really think that Lestat just needed someone to share his secret with, and someone to control. If Louis left him, he would have to find someone else that would fit both of those requirements, and that might be pretty hard.

What about Lestat still being alive? That would be freaky and he must have been EXTREMELY mad. Do you think he could ever forgive this?

You see, it was great at the beginning and then started to wear off.

Louis and Cladia were all set for an adventure to find other vampires when Lestat shows up again, and they burn him this time. It is a wonder that they want to find other vampires when they are having so much trouble with Lestat, but there you have it. The question now is, will those "other" vampires be able to provide answers about vampirism, or tell Louis and Claudia secrets they should know? They are hoping that there is a mystery that can be solved. I think Louis is hoping for a way to save his soul and Claudia is looking for valuable knowledge.

I'm sure that there are vampires out there that appreciate things like Claudia and Louis, but finding them will probably be a hassle. And with Lestat still alive...

What struck me about Claudia was her dual personality, for lack of a better term.  On one hand, she appreciates art and literature, etc. as does Louis and they share that bond.  On the other, she has no appreciation for life - which, by the way, created the art, literature, etc.  Her attempt to kill Lestat seemed, to me, a very childish act.  Sort of a lashing out at someone you don't like.  Of course, very much more vicious, but still...

Lashing out at someone you don't like is a bit of an understement if you  ask me, she attempted to kill him lol.

I haven't gotten that far in the book yet, I'm maybe 20 or so pages before Part 1 ends. But I cheated and watched the movie, so this isn't new to me. Oh well, my fault.

In the movie Claudia mentioned what she put in the bloode, did she in the book? I didn't hear her over my mother yelling at something so I missed that part.

I agree, Sandy, that she was rather childish. I mean, the way she killed him, I could not stand.

I will probably get to that part today, if I find time to pick the book up. But if I don't, how exactly did they say she tried to kill him? Maybe that is another part where the movie differs from the book. In the movie Claudia made Lastat drink from an already dead person, when Lastat had said earlier in the movie (and book if I remember) that a vampire can't drink from a dead person.

Claudia poisoned the 2 boys, I think with rat poison. To cover up the taste, she also gave them absinthe, so they were also drunk. I don't remember if they were dead when Lestat started drinking or not. I'm going to have to start carrying my book with me everywhere I go

The boys weren't dead in the book.  At least, the one Lestat drank from wasn't.  What I found strange was that Claudia then drank from Lestat as he was 'dying.'  Now, why did she do that?  It said it made her reel and stagger a bit from drinking Lestat's then tainted blood.  Was that some sort of demonstration of domination or something?  I didn't get that at all.

I haven't gotten to that part yet. I went to read and what happened, my mother sent me on errands, go figure. But, from what I did get to so far, I do recall Claudia and Louis talking about Claudia killing Lastat. I recall Claudia saying that she wondered if she would get Lastat's power once she did so. Maybe that was her idea, drink from him and gain his powers that she doesn't have.

I thought the drinking from Lestat was a domination thing.  When you think about it, Claudia has lots of problems to deal with.  She's a child, but she extremely well read, she knows more than any child should ever know, and she's never going to get any bigger, never grow up.  I think she's just trying to assert her self.

If that is the case she is trying to show Lastat and Louis this obviously.

Domination sounds good (rather, "accurate"). Could have been a way to "get him back" take from him what was taken from her. Could have been rage. Heck if I were her age and stuck in a 5 year old's body I might bite something too!

Kinda sad that of that entire section, the only thing we talked about with any depth was that brief scene. Maybe it will get better.

Now, something from the first section that was interesting. Okay. Did they ever say the name of the musition that was turned into a vampire? Now if we meet up with Lestat again, do you think he will be accomponied by his new friend?
